Hello there! This is my work related to lesson 4. I generally know that i had a problem with insect's legs. And clarity of drawing. I was focused on the constructional work (to practice it), i didn't do textures.
Nice job getting through the lesson!
Try to get more rounded edges on the bean shapes. You're varying the degrees of the ellipses which is good.
The leg segments of your insects are not curved so they are losing their flow. Look at the demos to see how they can have a satisfying curve. Try another insect or two with that in mind--it could make them look much better.
Nice grass hoppers.
You neglected the cast shadows and line weights to clarify the forms.

Try a couple more insects, but move onto the next lesson.
While I have a massive library of non-instructional art books I've collected over the years, there's only a handful that are actually important to me. This is one of them - so much so that I jammed my copy into my overstuffed backpack when flying back from my parents' house just so I could have it at my apartment. My back's been sore for a week.
The reason I hold this book in such high esteem is because of how it puts the relatively new field of game art into perspective, showing how concept art really just started off as crude sketches intended to communicate ideas to storytellers, designers and 3D modelers. How all of this focus on beautiful illustrations is really secondary to the core of a concept artist's job. A real eye-opener.
