I submitted the exercises before but i made a mistake by sending them in the lesson 2 category. Sorry for my mistake this won't happen again. Also I did most of the exercises in red micron pen. Hoping to get some constructive criticism thank you in advance.

Hello Lemons,

Congrats on finishing Lesson 1! I hope the advice I give you today will help you improve even further as you progress through Drawabox.

Superimposed Lines

Starting off with your Superimposed lines, you have done a good job on keeping them smooth, and leaving almost all of your fraying to only one side of your lines.

Your lines did sometimes fray in both directions, which means you didn't always take the proper time to line the tip of your pen to the start of your line. Be careful not to rush and always take your time.

Very good job on your shorter lines, but your longer lines seem to not be as straight. You seem to have improved a bit in your second page, but you still have some slight arching, remember to ghost your lines, draw from the shoulder and draw confidently in one fell swoop, that'll allow for nice straight lines even in longer lines.

Good job on your curves as well.

Ghosted Lines

You are using the ghosting method to great effect. Many of these lines are very nice and straight, your accuracy is quite good, although of course it can always be improved upon, you seem to be having some trouble with slight arching when it comes to your longer lines.

Try arching in the opposite way to compensate for this, keep practicing until you find what's comfortable and works for you.

Ghosted Planes

Great work. Your lines are mostly nice and straight, and the perspective of your planes is good, however it would of been great to see more variation when it comes to their sizes and shapes.

You also forgot one page of this exercise.

Table of Ellipses

Once again great job, your ellipses are smooth, they fit mostly snuggly within their bounds and there's not much overlapping. Again it would of been great to see a wider variety of degrees for your ellipses, being able to draw a wide variety of ellipses will be important for later lessons.

It would also have been nice if you tried to fit really small ellipses between your bigger ellipses, in Lesson 3 you'll be introduced to the branches exercise, that will require you to draw really small ellipses from the shoulder. So it'd be great if you could start practicing it sooner rather than later.

Ellipses in Planes

Here you show that you've had quite some trouble aligning ellipses to your plane.

The way we can see that an ellipse is not aligned properly is that the ellipse must touch all of the 4 walls of your plane where the lines of your + meet.

You've also only submitted one page of this exercise.

Funnels

Good job on funnels, just two things:

You seem to have misaligned your ellipses the first time and tried to correct it with another line, and you could have varied the degree of your ellipses as they approached the end of your funnel.

Plotted Perspective

Solid Job on plotted perspective, although you did miss a few lines for the back of your boxes.

Rough Perspective

You did a good job keeping the width lines and height lines parallel/perpendicular to the horizon line.

But your linework seems to have wavered a bit in places, and I can notice some boxes that have some redone lines.

Try to avoid this as best as possible, as once a mistake is done it cannot be fixed.

You also could have fit some more boxes in certain frames but this is more of a nitpick.

Rotated Boxes

Great work! You really shine in this exercise, I believe you have shown a great understanding of boxes in 3d space.

I can see some multiple lines, but I'm not sure whether it's for lineweight or to correct a mistake, in any case to add proper lineweight remember to taper off your second line into the first subtly.

Organic Perspective

Again I don't think there's anything I can criticize for this exercise, you seem to have executed it well and understood the point of the exercise, a nitpick is that seeing some different shaped boxes would of been nice, like some long and skinny boxes.

I feel like your work is very solid and you're ready for 250 boxes and Lesson 2. However I won't be moving you onto 250 boxes just yet as you forgot to submit 2 pages ( or Imgur lost them ). Please reply with the last page of ghosted planes + ellipses in planes ( it could be a single photo ) so I can give you the all clear.

Next Steps:

1 page of ellipses in planes.

When finished, reply to this critique with your revisions.

Thank you so much for the lovely feedback also thank you for taking time to critique me. When I was uploading the images I uploaded all the exercises including ghosting planes and elipses in planes but ikd why Imger just completely lost them anyway here is the link to it. Thanks again

You're welcome, I'm happy that my critique has been helpful :)

And don't worry hahah, Imgur is sometimes not the best. Thank you for linking the last page to me, on this page you still have trouble aligning your ellipses to your plane. Please focus on ghosted planes + ellipses in your warm ups especially and remember the points I've given in my previous comment.

I'll be marking this lesson as complete.

Next Steps:

Don't forget to add these exercises to your list of warm ups so you can develop your skills further.

Feel free to move on to 250 boxes.

Sakura Pigma Microns

Sakura Pigma Microns

A lot of my students use these. The last time I used them was when I was in high school, and at the time I felt that they dried out pretty quickly, though I may have simply been mishandling them. As with all pens, make sure you're capping them when they're not in use, and try not to apply too much pressure. You really only need to be touching the page, not mashing your pen into it.

In terms of line weight, the sizes are pretty weird. 08 corresponds to 0.5mm, which is what I recommend for the drawabox lessons, whereas 05 corresponds to 0.45mm, which is pretty close and can also be used.
