Can you ghost to much?

hey,

So i submitted my first homework and got 2 replies already and they both say i should ghost more.... but I get the feeling the more I ghost the worse my line gets, its like I build to much tension to it... and then fail horribly... like the 4th time i ghost, I ghost next to the point and then start missing while ghosting more and more and all that tension I build shows in the line ... how many times do you guys ghost?

Also, do I use the same speed while ghosting and drawing or should i go slower? When do you know when your speed is to fast? any tips?

Hello again, while ghosting your marks you want to be mindful of the mistakes that you have to correct, if your linework gets worse the more you do it, then probably you are approaching it incorrectly. Maybe you need to read the instructions for the ghosting method again, Here they are.

You should try to experiment with the speeds, you really have to balance it, as it shouldn't be too fast nor too slow.

Thanks again for helping me. If I reread the part of ghosting, I think the importend thing is to build op the musclememory and I think I overthink it...

One of those things that you just need to try and get the feel of. You are correct in that you can ghost too much( or too little ). You are almost waiting for a ghost stroke that feels good and then you go for the drawn line. Occasionally I ghost too much and it feels forced. When this happens I stop, myself shake my shoulders outm and try again.

Generally I ghost 2 or 3 times before drawing the line.

For myself, I ghost lines 2 or 3 times quickly, then draw the line a little slower. I think you will find your own sweet spot of comfort for speed. I have to reset if I can't visualize the line after ghosting a few times. I end up over thinking it. You will know you are finding the right formula for you by observing your line quality. I have incorporated lesson 1 and 2 homework into my warm-up and I think I have improved slowly. I keep all my practice sheets so I can see my progess over time.

So to that you have nothing to worry about with regards to ghosting you can't ghost too much. The idea of ghosting is to prepare yourself for the execution. The reason you're failing is probably because you're hesitating or haven't built up the muscle balance. I also think that you're overthinking it a little. You should stop ghosting when you feel confident about the line you're about to draw and even if you're confident there will still be mistakes.

Thanks, and I think you are right about the overthinking part, its like tension building up and the more i ghost, the more tension.

But I realize now, after rereading the part and reading the tips, the important part of ghosting is musclememory, that is something you do subconscious.. So I'll have to find out while doing my exercises. Thanks!

I will sometimes ghost up to 8 or so times, but usually it's because i'm also slightly rotating the angle of the page to what feels more comfortable and adjusting my ghosting angle accordingly.

I usually go for 3 or 4, if I'm lazy I'll catch myself at 2 until I frick up a line, then I'll give it more thought/ focus.
