I've finished lesson 2 and want to know if I am ready to move on to lesson 3 or should I do the 250 cylinder challenge

Your lines in the organic arrows exercise was confident and the hatching does its job well. Although, you could be a bit more dynamic in the space between the two lines to show the contrast between the furthest and nearest parts of the arrow. Because of that, all of the arrows look like they're being viewed from directly above which doesn't make it look like in a 3D environment. Your organic forms, however, are well done. I can easily see them in a 3D environment and the ellipses are well positioned.

As for your texture analysis, the black bar could blend a bit more for a seamless transition from pitch black to the texture being visible. Refer to this: https://d15v304a6xpq4b.cloudfront.net/lesson_images/7d1f3467.jpg. Also, the transition could be smoother but it's fine the way it is considering how difficult this exercise is for people who took this exercise for the first time. You did well on your dissections, you followed the instructions on the transition in the middle and to create the silhouette of the textures. I have nothing more to say.

I am in no means qualified to critique the intersections in the form intersections itself, however, I could suggest that you add more shapes to fill the paper entirely as to add more mileage to your practice. Just like I said in the organic forms exercise, you also did a good job giving the blobs some sense of weight. Although, you could add more shadows because the location of the light source is unclear. Overall, the issues can be worked on on your warm-ups such as the organic arrows.

Next Steps:

You can move on to the 250 cylinder challenge, but Uncomfortable believes that it would be better to do it after lesson 5. I believe that moving to lesson 3 is better because you can exercise texture and form intersections. You can also do the 25 texture challenge along with lesson 3 by doing one panel at a time if you believe you have the time and energy to do so. Do what motivates you the most.

When you say the space in between the lines of the organic arrows do you mean have the spaces closer in the back and larger in the front?

Yeah, thats the one. Sorry if it was unclear.

These are what I use when doing these exercises. They usually run somewhere in the middle of the price/quality range, and are often sold in sets of different line weights - remember that for the Drawabox lessons, we only really use the 0.5s, so try and find sets that sell only one size.

Alternatively, if at all possible, going to an art supply store and buying the pens in person is often better because they'll generally sell them individually and allow you to test them out before you buy (to weed out any duds).
