Hello I’ll be handling the critique for your lesson 2 homework.

Organic Arrows

-Starting by the organic arrows they are drawn with a good deal of confidence which has really helped you to capture the way they flow through space, and in general you are making some good attempts at the perspective of the ribbon, as it gets wider as it moves closer to the viewer, it seems that you are also aware of the fact that the negative space between the zigzagging sections of the ribbon gets narrower as it moves further back in space, as shown here https://d15v304a6xpq4b.cloudfront.net/lesson_images/011d064f.jpg , there are a few arrows where this is inconsistent but as long as you're aware of this you can keep working on it. However, I would advise you to avoid any situation where the arrows goes straight out of the page, like the arrows on the top right corner of your second page, I won’t really go into detail as to why this is the case but I can assure you that by keeping those arrows with simple “S” shape you will get the most out of this exercise. I will also say that it is good that you experimented with the orientation and I hope that you continue to display this habit in the future, anyways I don’t want this to be too long so let's move to the next section

Organic Forms

-The shape of your sausages is coming along nicely, and you have done a great job keeping them simple and with a consistent width throughout their length, there is still room for improvement but so far so good.

Moving on the contours there are some issues, there are many cases where you end up using too many of them. It is important to keep in mind that contours are a super useful tool to describe how a form sits in 3D space but they can easily work against us by flattening our drawing, The best strategy is to use the ghosting method to think about each mark's purpose and how you are going to achieve it best. This way you'll avoid drawing contours that don’t really add any useful information.

Texture

-On the texture analysis I like to see a bold use of ink in order to achieve a more seamless transition from dense to sparse, and overall you are doing a great job focusing on the cast shadows only

-On the dissections I can see that you have focused more on the negative space and you are also falling into the trap of using form shading, some good examples of this issue would be the strawberry and the cherry, so if you need a reminder I would advise you to rewatch this video on implicit vs explicit shadows https://drawabox.com/lesson/2/2/implicitexplicit . The meat of this exercise is to get you to start thinking about and designing those cast shadow shapes to define a specific relationship between the form casting it and the actual shadow shape, so I will also redirect you to this diagram https://imgur.com/oAx2pRD which shows that when we are working with thin-like-line textures it is better to first draw the shape and then fill it in, this will help us to get better results

Form Intersections

-Moving to the forms intersections you are doing a good job, the main issue here is that your forms have varying dimensions , with some forms being too big and others being too small, this makes it harder for the whole set to look as if they were sharing the same 3D space.

When it comes to the Intersections don’t worry if you feel like you don't fully grasp them yet as we will be revisiting them in the future.

Organic Intersections

-Finishing with the organic intersections there are a few issues I want to address. First, try to avoid the technique where you draw a big initial sausage and then add a bunch of smaller ones on top of it, try to keep them equally sized. Drawing them simple and easy to work with is the best way to get good results, right now your sausages are definitely getting too complex, with some of them getting to deformed, try to stick to the recipe of two spheres connected by a tube of consistent width. When it comes to the cast shadow they seem to be hugging the form casting them, so try to push them further and give them a nice curve, you can read more about it in these notes https://drawabox.com/lesson/2/9/shadows .

Okayyy that should be about everything I wanted to talk about, there are some things that you need to keep working on so I’ll assign you some revisions below. Good luck!!
