Hi, I liked a lot the intersections exercice, though sometimes it's confusing. I really struggled with textures. But it was fun. Please give your thoughts about what I did and thank you in advance. Have a nice day ! :D

Hello I'll be handling the critique for your lesson 2 homework.

Organic Arrows

-Starting with the organic arrows, these are drawn with a good deal of confidence which really helps you to capture the fluidity with which they move through space. You are also making some good attempts at the perspective of the ribbon, as it gets wider as it moves closer to us. The only bit of critique I have to offer is that the negative space between the zigzagging sections of the ribbon should decrease as it moves further away, this principle is shown here, keep this in mind when doing this exercise in the future. Lastly, remember that you can add lineweight to the specific parts where the ribbon folds, avoid using lineweight on curves that are particularly long, and go through each step of the ghosting method to draw each mark to the best of your ability.

Organic Forms with Contours

-Most of your sausages are turning out nicely, and you have avoided any pinching or swelling throughout their length, there are some cases where this did happen, but they are few. Just keep practicing as there is always room for improvement.

When it comes to the contour ellipses I can see that you are aware of how they change degree depending on the angle of view, and they are also drawn confidently while maintaining good accuracy. Moving on to the contour curves these are beginning to wrap around the sausage believably, but there are a few cases where they seem to be barely changing degrees and other cases where there is no degree shift at all.

The important thing to keep in mind is that contour curves are a useful tool to describe how a form sits in 3D space, but they can easily work against us by flattening our drawings. The best strategy is to use the ghosting method to think about each mark's purpose and how you are going to achieve it best, this way you will avoid drawing any marks that don't really add any useful information to the drawing.

Textures

-I think you may have rushed a little in the texture analysis exercise, I can see that you made an effort to focus on the cast shadows, and the texture at the bottom turned out nicely. The main issue here is that I can see a lot of haphazard and chaotic marks, make sure you outline the shadow shape and then fill it with ink. This will also make it easier to achieve a smoother transition from dense to sparse.

-On the dissections I can see that you are relying heavily on outlines and negative space rather than the cast shadows, a good example of this is the tentacle texture, where you outlined every little bump explicitly. I think you may want to read this section of lesson 2 and watch the respective video again. I also want to quickly redirect you to this image which shows that when we are working with thin like line textures it is better to outline the shadow shape first and then fill it rather than just simply drawing lines. We still have the issue of haphazard and unplanned marks, so try to be more mindful and purposeful when drawing your textures, even if you feel like you don't fully grasp them right now.

Form intersections

-Your work in the form intersections is pretty good and your forms are drawn in a way that they seem to be sharing the same 3D space, when it comes to the intersections themselves you are doing a pretty good job, don't worry if you feel like you don't fully understand them yet as we will be going over them in future lessons.

Organic Intersections

-Finishing with the organic intersections, I see that you are moving in the right direction, and on your first page I can notice that your sausages begin to wrap around each other in a believable way, this is because you kept them simple and easy to work with, which is a strategy to produce good results. On the second page you let your sausages get either too long or too short, which breaks the cohesion of the whole set.

When it comes to the cast shadows I think you are not pushing them far enough and they seem to be hugging the form casting them, so try to push them further and keep in mind that they act as contour lines and wrap around the surface they are falling on, lastly remember to outline the shadow shape first and then fill it.

Okaay, you clearly have some things to keep working on, but I have no doubt you will continue to improve with practice and mileage. I'll go ahead and mark this lesson as complete
