Lesson 1: Lines, Ellipses and Boxes

Hi,
I just finished the first lesson, thoroughly enjoyed it and would love to get some feedback on my work.
Thanks in advance :)
Hi~ Let’s look through it, then~
The line section looks good! I’d recommend making the start/end points of your ghosted lines/planes smaller, since, the idea is that a line should, if perfect, swallow them both, but it looks like you figured this out by yourself, since that aspect of them improves considerably throughout the set, and even more throughout the submission- nice job there.
The ellipses look good, too. Careful to only go around them 2-3 times, though, ideally 2. Also, they’ll occasionally stiffen up in the ellipses in planes exercise, so be mindful of that. It’s more important for them to be rounded, than it is for them to be accurate, so don’t stress!
Finally, nice job on the box section. It looks like you might’ve used a ruler for the front faces of the rough perspective exercise. This is incorrect, but not a huge problem. Be careful not to correct incorrect lines, though. If they’re wrong, they’re wrong. Despite being super difficult exercises, both the rotated boxes exercise and the organic perspective exercise are well done. In the latter, though, be careful with your weight. It should be applied locally (meaning, to the part of the line that’s overlapping something, not the entirety of the line), and subtly (meaning, only once.) Careful not to apply it to the inner lines, too- that makes the box look less like a box, and more like a collection of lines.
Despite all this, this is a solid submission, so fantastic work, and good luck on the challenge!

250 Box Challenge
Hi Benj,
I just wanted to say this was the most thoughtful and constructive feedback I have ever had. I appreciate the time you have put in to analyzing my work.
I definitely used a ruler on rough perspective boxes, this was my mistake as I read the instructions incorrectly, in future I will use ghosting method. I also need to work on my correction of error lines, I should continue with the box, and my error, rather than correcting. Line weights is also something I completely got carried away and kept ghosting, I need to change that.
Thanks again,
R
When it comes to technical drawing, there's no one better than Scott Robertson. I regularly use this book as a reference when eyeballing my perspective just won't cut it anymore. Need to figure out exactly how to rotate an object in 3D space? How to project a shape in perspective? Look no further.
