Hello and congrats on completing lesson one. I'll be taking a look at your submission today. Your superimposed lines are off to a good start. You are keeping a clearly defined starting point with pretty minimal wavering throughout. Nice work. Your ghosted lines and planes are looking very nice. You are doing a great job using the ghosting method to get very confident linework with a pretty decent degree of accuracy that is only going to get better with practice.

Your table of ellipses are coming along quite well. You are doing a good job drawing through all of your ellipses and focusing on getting smooth ellipse shapes for the most part. This is starting to become a bit more of an issue with your ellipses in planes as you are starting to deform for your ellipses quite a bit for the sake of accuracy. Please check the lesson notes here. https://drawabox.com/lesson/1/12/deformed While accuracy is our ultimate goal for now you want to be focusing on getting consistently smooth ellipse shapes. Accuracy is what we are building towards through mileage. Your ellipses in funnels turned out okay. You are still deforming your ellipses as times and some of your ellipses are tilting off the minor axis a bit which is something you should start being more aware of. https://drawabox.com/lesson/1/funnels Your ellipses are off to a decent start but there's plenty of room for improvement here so keep practicing these during your warmups.

Plotted perspective looks great nothing to mention here. Your rough perspective boxes turned out pretty well. You are doing a good job extending the lines back on your boxes to check your work. As you can see some of your perspective estimations were quite off but that will become more intuitive with practice. You are also starting to add lineweight to all of your lines it looks like and I think you would probably be better off just sticking with a single line for now.

Your rotated box exercise was a nice attempt. Your line quality here is pretty good and you did a nice job drawing through all of your boxes. You could have done a bit better with keeping the gaps between your boxes more consistent and this would have helped more with the spatial thinking required for this exercise. https://drawabox.com/lesson/1/16/guessing This is a great exercise to come back to after a few lessons to see how much your spatial thinking ability has improved. Your organic perspective exercise turned out decently. Your linework is looking very confident here and you seem to be pretty comfortable with ghosting and drawing from the shoulder which is great to see. Your box constructions could definitely use some work though and the 250 box challenge will be a great next step for you.

Overall this was a pretty good submission and your line quality was looking very confident by that last exercise. I think you are understanding most of the concepts that these lessons are trying to convey pretty well. I'm going to mark this as complete and good luck with the 250 box challenge.

This critique marks this lesson as complete.

A lot of my students use these. The last time I used them was when I was in high school, and at the time I felt that they dried out pretty quickly, though I may have simply been mishandling them. As with all pens, make sure you're capping them when they're not in use, and try not to apply too much pressure. You really only need to be touching the page, not mashing your pen into it.

In terms of line weight, the sizes are pretty weird. 08 corresponds to 0.5mm, which is what I recommend for the drawabox lessons, whereas 05 corresponds to 0.45mm, which is pretty close and can also be used.
