Fortunately, you're only supposed to do the Rotated Boxes exercise once, so I'm going to go over everything one more time to mark this as completed! I will say that it is incredibly helpful if your imgur gallery is in order, but I've listed the assignments in order for chronology's sake.

Superimposed lines

Overall these are pretty great, though I do see a bit of wobble and arcing in your straight lines. This is something that is fixed with confidence over time, and from the looks of your other assignments you seem to be doing alright in that department.

Ghosted lines

Outside of a handful of little wiggles these are great! Same thing as above, worry about the confidence leading to a straight line before you worry about your accuracy, as worrying about accuracy is the most common source of line wiggles.

Ghosted planes

These look pretty good, though don't forget to plot your points! Every corner of the plane should have a dot; the X will use the corner dots; the + that you do last will need their own dots. Any time you are doing a straight, ghosted line you will need a defined start and end point.

Tables of ellipses

Your ellipses are a little bit squishy here, which typically means one of two things. You're either not trusting your ghosting (lack of confidence) or you're not used to the circular motion with your shoulder. I know I struggled with the latter, but if it's the former then you gotta just ghost more circles until the motion feels natural and then confidently do two loops.

Ellipses in planes

These are a lot more confident than your tables of ellipses, though you still have a few wiggles. Again, keep ghosting until you feel that the motion is more natural and then confidently do it!

Funnels

Same issues as your tables, though here we really want to see a variation in the width of the ellipses-thinner ellipses at the center of the funnel and wider ellipses at the ends of the funnel. I do think I want to see one more page of funnels from you, though that's not going to stop you from having this assignment marked as complete.

Plotted Perspective

Not much to say here expect to point out the slightly distorted boxes that are really high up on the rightmost plotted perspective frame. See here for more information on distortion.

Rough Perspective

I almost want to say that this exercise feels like you may have rushed through it? I do see some replotted dots-which is good (replot as many times as you need)-and some second attempts at lines-which is bad (commit to the first line you drew rather than attempting to fix your mistakes). You also forgot quite a few lines here which is easy to do when you're rushing. I think I want to see one more page of this as well, to make sure that you take your time with a page before moving on to 250 boxes.

Rotated Boxes

Malo addressed the important stuff with the rotated boxes exercise so I'm not going to repeat them here. I will repeat my own comment from a second ago to be patient, ESPECIALLY when things hurt your head the way they're supposed to with the rotated boxes. You missed some lines here as well, and there's a box on the bottom left corner that isn't even a quadrilateral! If you do feel compelled to redo this, I would suggest to do just one quadrant, really taking your time to get things oriented. The tips Malo gave are super helpful for this proces.

Organic Perspective

Your organic perspective is fairly good and follows the instructions to have the boxes get smaller as they go into the distance. Some additional planning may help to make them a little more "square" but overall they're good!

Next Steps:

1 page of funnels

1 page of rough perspective

Optional: 1 quadrant of rotated boxes

Thank you for the extended review , yes i did rush a bit throug the rough perspective because i felt like the first lesson was taking way too much time , this was the second (close to third week). Will redo the exercises again , where do i post them once i am done with them ? Or is there no need to post?

Sometimes these lessons feel like they take forever, but we have to be patient with them. I've done some thinking on it and I believe it's because we hear the word "lesson" and think it's something to be done within 1-3 days max, when in reality the homework for lesson 1 alone spans over 16 pages, not including warmups!

Everyone proceeds at their own pace, and sometimes that pace is quite slow. For example: I've been working on Draw a Box stuff since early November and I haven't even hit box 30 of the 250 box challenge. Even then I'm still moving faster than others I've seen in the discord, so try not to get too hung up on how long it's taking you.

Also, only redo the specific ones that I mentioned, since the rest show that you grasped the concept well enough to add the exercise to your warmup pool! Just wanting to clarify since I have seen people interpret statements like my own as "redo the whole lesson" which is unnecessary and wastes time for you.

When you've redone them, simply post them to imgur in a gallery and link them to me here.

Hi Maxxburn,

Fellow beginner here! Overall it looks pretty good to me. The thing that struck me the most is the spacing in the rotated boxes exercise. Try to get the lines a little bit closer together and rotate the boxes on the far end of each axes some more. You can get a lot of information about the box to draw from the previous one's oyu have drawn. Also, I saw some doodles on your lessons and although I love some doodling and scribbling myself, try to focus on the exercise and save the doodling for a different page ;) It was only once, so no worries.

Next Steps:

Correct your "Rotated Boxes" exercise to tighten the spacing of the boxes and rotated the boxes on the far end of each axes.

When finished, reply to this critique with your revisions.

The Art of Brom

The Art of Brom

Here we're getting into the subjective - Gerald Brom is one of my favourite artists (and a pretty fantastic novelist!). That said, if I recommended art books just for the beautiful images contained therein, my list of recommendations would be miles long.

The reason this book is close to my heart is because of its introduction, where Brom goes explains in detail just how he went from being an army brat to one of the most highly respected dark fantasy artists in the world today. I believe that one's work is flavoured by their life's experiences, and discovering the roots from which other artists hail can help give one perspective on their own beginnings, and perhaps their eventual destination as well.
