Thanks for any feedback!
Congratulations on finishing the first lesson. I hope you enjoy all the lessons to come!!
For you line exercises, I think you did a good job. There are some arches on ghosted lines exercise but I don't see much of a wobble. Your planes look crisp as well, as much as I can tell. Keep drawing confident lines from your shoulder and you'll be good to go.
Your ellipses look wobbly overall. But seem like you tidied up a bit in funnels exercise, but it can be better. First do some rounds of ghosting, then draw your ellipses with confidence. This means in a fast -not so fast that you lose control but fast enough that your hand doesn't shake and create wobbles- and smooth movement. After you got this down, work on your accuracy. This courses priority is confidence, so never look past confidence to spare some accuracy.
There are also some wobble in your boxes. I'm gonna make some suggestions from the mistakes I made because your boxes look like what mine used to look like. Firstly always draw with your shoulder, even if it's a short line. There are a lot more muscles that control your wrist than the ones that control your shoulder. What this means is that when you're using your wrist, so many little muscles that work in different directions will be activated, and in result create wobble. Secondly, as I said for ellipses, confidence is above accuracy. Even when your building boxes that seem like require some accuracy, you can put confident marks that pass or come short of your planned dots, and you can compensate these with your next lines by adjusting your planned dots. But if you put wobbly but accurate lines, end result will look like a bunch of wobbly lines, not like a box. Illusion lies in line quality, so never pare down on your line quality. Also remember, lines are on 3 levels and wobbly lines are not even level 1. Please feel free to ask for help from me or others if you have further questions.
Other than that, I think you did good with rotating boxes, rotation seems alright. And there could be more variations of boxes in organic perspectives, but you'll get that down in 250 boxes challenge.
Overall you did a good job overall. And you'll have plenty of opportunities to improve in 250 box challenge. Good luck and keep up the good work!!
Next Steps:
Work on your line quality and always draw from your shoulder. Good luck with 250 box challenge!!
Like the Staedtlers, these also come in a set of multiple weights - the ones we use are F. One useful thing in these sets however (if you can't find the pens individually) is that some of the sets come with a brush pen (the B size). These can be helpful in filling out big black areas.
Still, I'd recommend buying these in person if you can, at a proper art supply store. They'll generally let you buy them individually, and also test them out beforehand to weed out any duds.
