Box #1 is at the bottom
Hey guts, great job finishing the box challenge. So overall you've made a lot of good progress in this challenge in terms of your understanding of three dimensional space as well as your ability to intuit where your converging lines should be heading and the angles between parallel lines. You've done a good job varying your sizes of boxes, but your orientations were fairly similar throughout the challenge. This isn't against any explicit rules, it's just that when you play around with different orientations it helps you further develop your understanding and intuition of three dimensional space. The biggest concern I have with your work is your line work feels pretty haphazard. I am assuming you were attempting to apply line weight since it was such a systemic issue throughout the challenge, so continue to work on your super imposed lines exercises. To your credit, you were committing to your lines confidently so that's great; it's just a matter of building up your mileage and tightening up those lines.
In regard to your actual convergences, you did pretty well. There weren't too many issues with back lines going off askew or anything like that, but for completeness sake I will share with you the proverbial infographic. Give it a read and let me know if you have any questions, but the short version is that we need to look at all parallel lines in unison when drawing them because they are all related to one another via the vanishing point. As it (the VP) moves, the angles between the lines change. You are showing to have a pretty good handle on this so I won't belabor the point too much.
Next Steps:
Overall you have done what was asked of you - 250 boxes and correctly applied check lines. You showed significant progress in your understanding and now you just need to get your mechanical execution to be at the same level as your conceptual understanding. Feel free to move on to lesson 2 and keep practicing your super imposed lines during warm ups.
This is a remarkable little pen. Technically speaking, any brush pen of reasonable quality will do, but I'm especially fond of this one. It's incredibly difficult to draw with (especially at first) due to how much your stroke varies based on how much pressure you apply, and how you use it - but at the same time despite this frustration, it's also incredibly fun.
Moreover, due to the challenge of its use, it teaches you a lot about the nuances of one's stroke. These are the kinds of skills that one can carry over to standard felt tip pens, as well as to digital media. Really great for doodling and just enjoying yourself.
