Thanks for letting me know Kaneki. now without any further ado lets jump into the feedback. As always this feedback will be divided into three parts. and we will explore them one by one.
In this case I'll try to make every effort to provide helpful analysis on your work by breaking down into three parts.
these are the name given specifically because of their order and to represent the specific section of the boxes
Newbies - ( 1-100 boxes) 2. Intermediates - (101-200 boxes) and 3. pros - ( 201- 250 boxes).
PART 1: THE PRAISES ( The job you did well in the challenge):
Checking your mistakes: your mistakes are slowly reducing in the challenge because of the line extention method (that is checking your mistakes by extending the correction lines away from the viewer) so thats great!.
while line weight and hatching are optional in this challenge. I'm glad that you did take time to use those tools to reinforce the form you are constructing ( in this case box). we advice you to continue using those tools even in warm ups to build mileages with them.
Very good job for your ghosting work :thumbs up, meaning you did take time to plan where your lines starts and ends and thought about their relationships with each other and V.p's before executing them. so thats perfect!.
your lesson 1 lines are nicely carried over here as well so this indicates that the lines are smooth, confident and consistent throughout this challenge as well. so good job on that too!
I like your way of experimenting with the boxes construction meaning you did take time to construct various degrees of rotation and proportion and perspective applied to your boxes. thats awesome too!.
You got some pretty decent amount of convergence on the intermediates and pros so good job on that too!.
PART 2: WHERE IT WENT SLIGHTLY OFF? ( Where you should keep an eye on) ( No worries part!)
I think you are headed in the right direction and you have understood the concept of perspective very well so the box challenge has done its job.but there are some minor hiccups in your work that needs to be identified and removed.
so yeah I will do my job to mention you some of the minor issues in your works and you can do your job by including 1-2 boxes in your warm ups to reduce them in the future.
There are time where you sometimes you repeat over the internal lines of the boxes. It may be due to thinking about accuracy ( like It should have been like this instead of this and trying to correct them). In such cases we advise you to not repeat your lines and move on with accepting the mistakes. So that In my opinion our brain will definitely try to avoid the same types of mistakes.
they are some minor areas where you did not fully commit your lines ( in case of hatching lines like we can see on newbies 66,72,79 ,96, 168 and 183 ) and you did tend to slow down while reaching the end points thereby creating a subtle wobbly lines at the End. In such cases lifting your pen off while reaching the end points might help and You should always give the confidence a higher priority. so yeah you should be conscious about them as well.
of course you had improved throughout the challenge but there are times where some of the set of lines converges at a faster rates than the others resulting in converging in pairs. yep this issue you can definitely work on, in your warm ups. by trying to know the relationships between each lines related to its distance and also from their Vps.It's completely and totally normal to have the back corner line slightly off compared to the rest.they have significantly improved at end of your work so nice job!.
Overall Impressive work Kaneki. keep up the good work. all the issues mentioned above are greatly improved at the end of this challenge but you should remind yourself to avoid those in your future warm ups as well.
PART 3: THE JOB WE CAN DO TO IMPROVE OUR BOXES IN OUR WARM UPS:
Even if your Ink flow is inconsistent please do not repeat or re attempt or re create your lines. so again try your best to move on that nothing has happened.
we should continue treat every lines with respect How do we treat with respect?- first we should plan where our lines will start and end by plotting the points and ghost them several times ( hovering in motion) and draw them with confidence and from the shoulder.
And as always continue to experiment with your boxes and have fun with it. try to construct some bigger and extreme foreshortening boxes as well in your warm ups. experimentation, observation and results ( like in practicals :D) is always important for our growth.
MY POINT OF VIEW:
Your work tells us that you have put a shit ton of energy, focus and time in completing this challenge so hats off for that. I'm sure that you did read through the lesson materials and followed instructions carefully and executed to your best.
this was the nice and solid submission ever.I believe you are quickly headed in the right direction. Yep I'm marking this challenge as complete. dude you should now move on to lesson 2. Keep Inspiring us by the way.
Yo Kaneki Yo ! we made it Again.. Congratulation on completing this challenge. I believe this feedbacks helps.
P.s : May I ask : what pen are you using?- I think they are not ball point pens, they may be sharpies but dunno. I think I have used them, Are they called as Fine writer ( with blue as a color)?
Thank you Kaneki for reading It through.
Next Steps:
of course this challenge as marked as complete. since your boxes convergences is pretty good you can try Additional boxes exercises like - boxes in strings and sub dividing boxes.
lesson 2. Yay.
1.set a timer for 10 or 15 minutes- know your goal , be conscious of your mistakes and fight for 10 or 15 min in warm ups. be as perfect as you can but don't expect perfection!.
Good luck on your future lessons. Awaiting to see your progress.
thank you
Again, Thanks a ton!! Chiran. I will definitely keep my mistakes in my mind and will work on that. And yes,i use a fine liner pen 0.5 . I think its a local company (luxour) available in my country. If its important then i can also change my pen.
And again, thank a lot Chiran????.
You are Welcome Kaneki. I'm glad that you found my critique helpful.
There is no need to change your pen which is a fine liner. If the flow of your pen is Inconsistent or prone to dry out quickly then you can change some brands and experiment with them. I think luxor pens are good. I have been using them since the beginning of draw a box. So you can stick with It also.
Thank you very much for your time and effort in reading and responding to my feedback. best of luck in the lesson 2 Dude!.
Let's be real here for a second: fineliners can get pricey. It varies from brand to brand, store to store, and country to country, but good fineliners like the Staedtler Pigment Liner (my personal brand favourite) can cost an arm and a leg. I remember finding them being sold individually at a Michael's for $4-$5 each. That's highway robbery right there.
Now, we're not a big company ourselves or anything, but we have been in a position to periodically import large batches of pens that we've sourced ourselves - using the wholesale route to keep costs down, and then to split the savings between getting pens to you for cheaper, and setting some aside to one day produce our own.
These pens are each hand-tested (on a little card we include in the package) to avoid sending out any duds (another problem with pens sold in stores). We also checked out a handful of different options before settling on this supplier - mainly looking for pens that were as close to the Staedtler Pigment Liner. If I'm being honest, I think these might even perform a little better, at least for our use case in this course.
We've also tested their longevity. We've found that if we're reasonably gentle with them, we can get through all of Lesson 1, and halfway through the box challenge. We actually had ScyllaStew test them while recording realtime videos of her working through the lesson work, which you can check out here, along with a variety of reviews of other brands.
Now, I will say this - we're only really in a position to make this an attractive offer for those in the continental United States (where we can offer shipping for free). We do ship internationally, but between the shipping prices and shipping times, it's probably not the best offer you can find - though this may depend. We also straight up can't ship to the UK, thanks to some fairly new restrictions they've put into place relating to their Brexit transition. I know that's a bummer - I'm Canadian myself - but hopefully one day we can expand things more meaningfully to the rest of the world.
