Hey Brontoraptor, I'll be taking a look at your submission!

Organic Arrows:

  • They're smooth & confidently drawn from shoulder.

  • For lineweight, don't slowly trace the previous mark(it results in wobbly lines), make sure you avoid it & always ghost before doing them.

  • When doing little hatching to show the shadows, make sure they don't stop at arbitrary points(or distances) at-least when doing draw a box lessons.

Organic Forms:

  • Keep in mind the degree of ellipses when doing palcing contour lines in these forms, even for the curves if they're hard to notice at first. Change them for each cross section gradually depending on the viewing angle(even when the forms are straight, see https://imgur.com/rXLBxSg).

  • You've kept ellipses aligned to the minor axis(except in some contour curves like in form 9, more ghosting would definetely help) which is very improtant & within the forms, nice work.

Texture Analysis:

  • The transition from dark to light has been done gradually, though I feel like you can go ahead & be even more vague for texture near the lightest portion & exaggerate the darkest portion.

  • Like said above details should be kept to very minimum near light portion(see your 3rd texture, everything is outlined), keep this in mind when doing these in warm ups.

Dissections:

  • Good work on having most of the textures here wrapped around the form & drawing the silhouette for each forms.

  • I feel like you missed out on doing some implicit texture, with varying detail density with the use of light.

Form Intersections:

  • The 3D forms here are drawn with consistent foreshortening, they don't look out of the place.

  • I can see your intersections are mostly well placed, keep practicing them & also look at work of others to see how they placed such intersections(it helped me a lot).

  • You should also think for the back side of the intersections, in (page 2, bottom left side) intersection of cylinder & sphere, see how following the contour for cylinder all the way around is not correct as there is portion of sphere on other side that would change the shape of the intersection. Naturally it should meet with contour of the sphere, if you've thought the cylinder would go inside of that sphere.

Organic Intersections:

  • You are not drawing through your forms, even if it would make the drawing hard to figure out, you still have line weight & cast shadows to show what's in front. So please draw through the forms just like you've done in intersection exercise.

Overall

For the most part you've completed the exercises as instructed, just need improvement in some sections before you move to next lesson.

Next Steps:

  • 1 page of Organic intersections

Drawn through your forms with a sense of stability, so they don't seem like they will fall from it's surface. See the instructions in the exercise again if you can. Also ghost for the lineweight here as well.

Hey good work on drawing through your forms.

Next Steps:

Feel free to move on to lesson 3!

Whenever doing texture exercises in your warmups remember to vary their detail density, for easy (& control over)movement of viewer's eye.

Cottonwood Arts Sketchbooks

These are my favourite sketchbooks, hands down. Move aside Moleskine, you overpriced gimmick. These sketchbooks are made by entertainment industry professionals down in Los Angeles, with concept artists in mind. They have a wide variety of sketchbooks, such as toned sketchbooks that let you work both towards light and towards dark values, as well as books where every second sheet is a semitransparent vellum.
