Hello and congrats on finishing the lesson 1! I am Lucas and I will review your works and help you find your mistakes.

Lines: I see that your lines are quite wobble in your "Superimposed Lines" homework as It seems that you didn't ghost the lines enough to confidently draw straight lines and make your muscle remember this action. However, you have improved the smoothness and confidence of your executing drawing lines in your "Ghosted lines" and "Ghosted Planes" homeworks. I'd say it is a good improvement.

Ellipses: In "Tables of Ellipses", the ellipses are quite good, the distance between lines isn't too far away and you manage to maintain the evenness of the ovals. You are doing a good job drawing through your ellipses and focusing on consistent smooth ellipse shapes. This is carried over to your ellipses in planes. It is great to see that those ellipses are well drawn, touching the sides and it doesn't look too uneven, wobble and bumpy. About the "Funnels", the ovals fit inside the funnels and they look aligned with the axis. Good job!

Boxes: "Plotted Perspective" is good but in "Rough Perspective", I see your boxes quite wobble. However, nothing beside those wobble boxes is done wrong in "Rough Perspective". About "Rotated Boxes", I think you have little struggles in doing this homework. I gonna show you the bad boxes which you draw: https://imgur.com/a/3IaqUje (The red arrows point which boxes are drawn poorly). These boxes are smaller and more distorted than other boxes next to. And also, you miss a box on top right. Nevertheless, other boxes are drawn correctly where they are and it shows that you understand how a box rotate. Next to "Organic Perspective*, you draw them great, they follow the line and have their edges converged to points. You also rotate the boxes each time. Good job!

Overall, your lesson 1 is well done and it shows the improvement and growth in your skill and confidence of executing lines. Even so, you should improve your skills in order not to make more wobble lines like "Superimposed lines" and "Rough Perspective" by doing them in your Warm up or Practice. I'll tell you a way to fix these wobble lines by grabbing a piece of scratch paper and "reset" myself by drawing some loose, fast lines that go nowhere in particular. Then I go back to the more precise work. Hope this critique will be helpful for you and help you realize some weaknesses.

Next Steps:

You should wait to get a badge and then start doing 250 boxes! While waiting, you can practice executing lines more confidently and trusting in your muscle memory more.

Thank you so much for taking your time to write this critique. It was very informative and now I know what I should improve.

Ellipse Master Template

Ellipse Master Template

This recommendation is really just for those of you who've reached lesson 6 and onwards.

I haven't found the actual brand you buy to matter much, so you may want to shop around. This one is a "master" template, which will give you a broad range of ellipse degrees and sizes (this one ranges between 0.25 inches and 1.5 inches), and is a good place to start. You may end up finding that this range limits the kinds of ellipses you draw, forcing you to work within those bounds, but it may still be worth it as full sets of ellipse guides can run you quite a bit more, simply due to the sizes and degrees that need to be covered.

No matter which brand of ellipse guide you decide to pick up, make sure they have little markings for the minor axes.
