Hi, really sorry I haven't given you feedback until now. Life's been busy

We've got a few things to go over so let's get right to it

Superimposed Lines:

The way you've layed out your Superimposed Lines makes it really difficult to critique because there's just a mess of lines everywhere. It also seems like you've made every single line roughly the same size, that size being the entire page. Your Lines look very wobbly, I recommend starting off with smaller lines to get used to the motions of drawing with confidence. Re-read through the notes on mark-making again, I think you've missed many of the important things in there.

Ghosted Lines:

These lines look really wobbly, especially the longer ones. I recommend trying to work with smaller lines to begin with, using the ghosting method for each one. When you're comfortable with that, you can try some bigger lines making sure to use your shoulder for the movement.

Ghosted Planes:

Overall these are actually really good. Well done! I don't know why you did 4 pages though, you're only supposed to do 2. Please pay attention to exactly what the lessons ask you to do. Also, I don't advise re-drawing over a line that you mess up. If Don't try to go over lines a second time

Tables of Ellipses:

This is an incomprehensible mess. Please go back to the homework and FOLLOW THE INSTRUCTIONS. You've drawn your grid lines without a ruler, which is not what you're supposed to do. The table that contains the ellipses should be drawn with a ruler, the focus is on ellipses in this exercise. Also there's random scribbly lines all over the page that completely overshadow your ellipses. Please follow the Demo and use the example homework as a reference. You've also done three pages instead of two, and I can see a random drawing of a face on one of your pages. Follow the lesson examples.

Ellipses in Planes:

Overall, pretty good. Ellipses look confident, most are drawn through multiple times. A couple of them deform slightly, and some haven't been drawn through fully, so bear that in mind.

Funnels:

This is a difficult exercise, so you made a good attempt here. Couple of things to watch out for though; Some ellipses look wobbly and haven't been drawn through multiple times. Make sure you prioritise confidence, drawing through your ellipses 2 or 3 times to keep them even. They're also skewed at different angles in some of the funnels, you want to try to keep them all aligned at the same angle as they go across.

Plotted Perspective:

Your lines are built up with chicken-scratch which they shouldnt be. They should be drawn with a ruler in this particular exercise. Additionally you're hatching your boxes incorrectly. (I've explained why in the rough perspective). Please follow the demo more closely.

Rough Perspective:

You're drawing WAY too many boxes, such that you're not even plotting back all of them to the VP to check the convergences, which defeats the point of this exercise completely. Also, try to avoid drawing them so far out, it starts to break down a bit at the edges due to distortion. Also you shouldn't be shading with a red marker and random squiggles. Additionally you shouldn't be hatching more than one side, ESPECIALLY not the inner sides/sides that face away from the viewer. This will break your persepective and UTTERLY undermines the goal of hatching. If you're going to do Hatching do it EXACTLY AS THE LESSON TELLS YOU TO DO.

Rotated Boxes:

This is a really good attempt, well done. Only issues are that you've outlined all of your boxes in red, when you don't really need to, and your hatching looks a little messy and scribbly. Each hatching line should be ghosted and drawn straight.

Organic Perspective:

This was a good attempt, well done. No glaring errors and you'll be able to practise your perspective when you get to the 250 box challenge.

Next Steps:

Redo the following exercises and follow the instructions to the letter.

Superimposed Lines, Tables of ellipses, Ghosted Lines.

I won't ask you to redo the plotted perspective or the rough perspective because you'll be able to practise your perspective in the 250 box exercise, however I will stress to you the importance of doing exactly what the lessons ask you to do. You've made a lot of errors purely because you haven't read the instructions enough, and that is an incredibly worrying precedent moving forward.

When finished, reply to this critique with your revisions.

Thankyou,

i'm so sorry that most of my works are messed up. i hadn't really considered submitting my work for critiques in the first place. but as i completed the lesson i just gave it a shot and suprised that i actually got a reply , thanks. It is the reason why my works are all jumbled up . and hahah i went quite overboard with some lessons.

.

just as you said i went over the lessons you had said

This looks good, your ghosted lines are looking very confident, your superimposed lines are very good too.

I will just note that some of your ellipses are overlapping the boundaries of the frame, which isn't supposed to happen, they all need to stay within their designated table. Just a small thing though, most of them are quite confident and stay roughly where they're supposed to.

Next Steps:

Everything looks okay here, Move onto the 250 box challenge now

The Art of Blizzard Entertainment

The Art of Blizzard Entertainment

While I have a massive library of non-instructional art books I've collected over the years, there's only a handful that are actually important to me. This is one of them - so much so that I jammed my copy into my overstuffed backpack when flying back from my parents' house just so I could have it at my apartment. My back's been sore for a week.

The reason I hold this book in such high esteem is because of how it puts the relatively new field of game art into perspective, showing how concept art really just started off as crude sketches intended to communicate ideas to storytellers, designers and 3D modelers. How all of this focus on beautiful illustrations is really secondary to the core of a concept artist's job. A real eye-opener.
