I have a question about the lesson 5 homework

For lesson 5 are we allowed to include demos as part of our homework submission like in lessons 3 and 4?

I feel like I may have answered this somewhere else - but the short answer is that for this lesson, you should consider the demos to be separate from your assigned work, specifically because the assignments ask for specific kinds of animals.

Yeah I asked on the subreddit too since I wasn't getting responses for a while, but thanks for getting back to me.

While you're here I have another question about lesson 5, when we're doing 2 drawings for each animal, do both drawings need to be from the same photo or are they each from different photos of the same type of animal?

Different photos of the same type of animal. You can even use multiple photos for a single drawing, in the case that one has certain parts obscured.

While I have a massive library of non-instructional art books I've collected over the years, there's only a handful that are actually important to me. This is one of them - so much so that I jammed my copy into my overstuffed backpack when flying back from my parents' house just so I could have it at my apartment. My back's been sore for a week.

The reason I hold this book in such high esteem is because of how it puts the relatively new field of game art into perspective, showing how concept art really just started off as crude sketches intended to communicate ideas to storytellers, designers and 3D modelers. How all of this focus on beautiful illustrations is really secondary to the core of a concept artist's job. A real eye-opener.
