Lesson 2: Contour Lines, Texture and Construction
4:52 PM, Monday July 5th 2021
Hello,
Finally done with Lesson 2. It was definitly the hardest one so far. Especially the texture part.
I don´t have a lot to say about the arrows and organic forms exercises. The only thing that i am a little confused about is if the degree we apply to the ellipses in the sausage also applies to the contour line.
The textures part was definitly the hardest part. I feel like in the beginning i was approaching the exercise slightly wrong. The corn analysis and dissection shows that very well i think. I concentrated too much on the little corners and it ended up looking like plant cells. The fur part on the dissections was when i think i properly understood how to texture. I mean i doesn´t really look a lot like fur but it looks a lot better than the corn and the fish scales. But one problem i noticed is when i try to texture small bumpy surfaces like the chicken wings, a dirtpatch or scrambled egg, they all kinda ended up looking the same. And i don´t really know what or how i could have made them more distinct. In addition to that, constantly looking at the reference was very hard since i kept forgetting it. But as kept going it definitly got a lot easier to look up frequently.
For the form intersections, only the first page was very hard. Every page after that felt easier than the one before. But i guess thats the point.
The first page was very overwhelming and i quickly lost sight on what box intersects with what box. The pages after that weren´t that hard anymore. Don´t get me wrong that doesn´t mean it wasn´t challenging and i have propably still made a lot of mistakes(Especially that one box on page 3). But I felt like got lot more "comfortable in 3D space".
Sadly a lot of my spheres often came out uneven, even though i use the ghosting method. I think thats a little odd because the ellipses i draw most of the time come out as i want them to but my spheres don´t. But out of all the forms i had the most trouble with in 3D space were the pyramids. When drawing any other form i always had an idea in mind as to how it would sit in space, even before i actually drew it. And don´t get me wrong, i understand how to draw pyramids and i also understand how make it so that it faces towards or away from the viewer but they never came out exactly as i wanted them to. I hope you can understand what i mean and maybe help me out a bit with that. Then again this might be one of the things that get better with practice.
And lastly for the organic forms, i don´t have a lot to say. They were very relaxing to do, but i think i made some mistakes.
Sorry for the paragraph but i really wanted to get my problems across. Thanks in advance for your criticism.
