To be as clear as possible, I want you to do 2 more plant constructions, you can redo some of the ones you had already made or choose new ones, as long as they are not demos.

Focus only on the construction side of things, I don't want you to get overwhelmed with the details or texture, and yes, keep all the things I mentioned above in mind.

I look forward to seeing your work, good luck.

Hey I've got the plant drawings finished while following your advice I definitely see how drawing all my forms even the parts I can't see helps me think more in 3D space

One think however Is I find it think of hard to see where on form ends and a new one begins when there's so many overlapping eachother is it something my eye will just get used to in time or is there any exercise from lessons 1/2 I should do to help with that

Here's the link and thanks for the feedback https://imgur.com/a/FUmng5o

Okay so let's see how you have improved.

-Starting with the rose there is significant improvement, previously you had only drawn the outlines for each petal, but now you are clearly defining a relationship between each petal and drawing the flow lines for each one, you are pushing yourself to think about each form and how it behaves in 3D space, I hope you keep nurturing this habit. Your drawing may not look as clean as the previous one, but that’s good as we are not aiming to do pretty drawings.

-Your second plant is also good and you are not skipping any constructional steps, so everything maintains a tight specific relationship with the preceding structure.

Now I’ll try to answer your questions to the best of my knowledge.

One thing you could try is to look for many references of the subject you are about to draw, that way you can see the object you are drawing from many angles, your ability to reason in 3D will come from how much information you can distill from a certain reference image and there is no reason why you should limit yourself to only one. You should be looking constantly at your references because you do not want to draw from memory. And always remember that construction really relies heavily on how tightly bound each step is to the one before it. This is how we're able to take the solidity that comes from simplicity in those first stages, and carry it forward even as the overall complexity of the structure increases

Some useful exercises to revisit, would be the rotated boxes, organic perspective but above all the most useful would be the form intersections. Keep in mind that this will be an uphill battle but as you advance through the lessons and make your best effort you will get better.

Next Steps:

Now you can move on to lesson 4 good luck.

This community member feels the lesson should be marked as complete, and 2 others agree. The student has earned their completion badge for this lesson and should feel confident in moving onto the next lesson.

Thanks for the feed back I'll keep what I've learnt in mind I have done a few of the insect drawings before seeing your critic so 1 or 2 of them might share some of the previous issues but I'll definitely draw all forms even the ones I can't see for the rest of them

Again thanks for the feedback

A lot of my students use these. The last time I used them was when I was in high school, and at the time I felt that they dried out pretty quickly, though I may have simply been mishandling them. As with all pens, make sure you're capping them when they're not in use, and try not to apply too much pressure. You really only need to be touching the page, not mashing your pen into it.

In terms of line weight, the sizes are pretty weird. 08 corresponds to 0.5mm, which is what I recommend for the drawabox lessons, whereas 05 corresponds to 0.45mm, which is pretty close and can also be used.
