So I had a bit of an issue with bens, so started with a black biro and a green fineliner, but got a black fineliner about half way through.

Also had to remake ghosted planes, because I lost the original.

I think that in organic perspective part 2, the boxes are all the same shape. They are alright but some of them just look like the same boxes just smaller or bigger. I had the same mistake. Try to rotate the boxes, the Y shape, make it sideways or upside down. What I did that helped me was to draw in another page different rotated Y shapes. Mark the ones that I already did so I dont repeat the same shape 5 times.

Hello I’ll be handling the critique for your lesson 1 homework

Lines

-Starting with the superimposed lines, you are doing a great job always starting at a clearly defined point and keeping all of the wavering on one side. The fraying at the ends tends to disappear with more practice.

-Moving on to the ghosted lines, I can see that you are using the ghosting method to good effect. That said I can notice a tendency of your lines to wobble and arch slightly, keep in mind that at this early point you should be prioritizing confidence over accuracy. This means that you always want your lines to follow a consistent trajectory even if they are going to miss the ending dot.

-Your linework in the ghosted planes is still looking a little hesitant, so try to loosen up and draw them a bit faster to avoid any chances of wobbling, do not worry about overshooting or undershooting your lines.

Ellipses

-Starting with the tables of ellipses, always aim to make your ellipses symmetrical, avoid any ellipse with pointed ends, your ellipses tend to look stiff, so take your time when ghosting them so they end up more confident

-In the ellipses in planes,I think the shapes get a bit unsymmetrical and wobbly at times. You might be thinking that the center of the ellipses is the same as the center of the planes or that you should modify the elliptical ellipse shape so it touches the contact points, but this is not the case. Ellipses have to be symmetrical and have the same shape regardless of where they are, so the only things you can change is how wide the ellipse is and which position it is in.

-Aside from the issues already mentioned, your funnels are turning out well, don’t forget to draw through them 2-3 times. I think you nailed the alignment and the spacing so keep working on the confidence.

Boxes

-Starting with the rough perspective, you have done a good job keeping the sides of the boxes well aligned to the horizon line.Your estimations to the vanishing point will get better with practice. And finally do not try to correct lines which you had already drawn, as this only makes the mistake stand out more.

-Your rotated boxes turned out well, one thing that can help you is to use as much space available in your page, this way you can make more confident and accurate marks.

-Lastly on the organic perspective, try to plan your lines more carefully, as I can see plenty of cases where you tried to correct lines, try to get rid of this habit.Remember you can add lineweight to the parts of outer lines that overlap with other boxes to clarify which ones are on top and which behind, so give it a try next attempts you have at the exercise! The box's perspective has issues overall, but that's not a problem as you'll work on it on the box challenge, so nothing to worry about.

Next Steps:

Before moving on do the following

-1 page of ghosted planes

-1 page of ellipses in planes

-1 page of tables of ellipses.

Good luck, I look forward to seeing your work

Faber Castell PITT Artist Pens

Like the Staedtlers, these also come in a set of multiple weights - the ones we use are F. One useful thing in these sets however (if you can't find the pens individually) is that some of the sets come with a brush pen (the B size). These can be helpful in filling out big black areas.

Still, I'd recommend buying these in person if you can, at a proper art supply store. They'll generally let you buy them individually, and also test them out beforehand to weed out any duds.
