Hi there, welcome to drawabox. Congratulations on finishing lessom 1.on to the critique

  1. Super-imposed lines - good job on the super imposed lines. There's no fraying at the start meaning you took time to align your pen to the starting point .

  2. Ghosted lines - there's some struggle here. Your lines are wobbly. And some don't reach the second point and some overshoot. I would advice you to follow the 3 levels uncomfortable listed here https://drawabox.com/lesson/1/9/levels

First focus on making your lines smooth then accuracy will come later also try the method uncomfortable mentioned of lifting your pen up when you reach the second point

  1. Ghosted planes- i can see that your lines start getting better but there's still some wobbling

  2. Tables of ellipses-. Good job on the first page. Nice tight ellipses. The problem comes in the second page. Though your ellipses are good the some don't touch the top and bottom boundaries. Look at that when you do the exercise again in your warm-ups

  3. Ellipses in planes.- here you prioritized accuracy over smoothness. First focus on smooth ellipses accuracy will come later.

  4. Ellipses in funnels - good job here nothing much to say

  5. Plotted perspective - no words

  6. Rough perspective - most of the problem is here. As you said you struggled with it. I would advice you to first read through the exercise again. But in my opinion i will tell you this. First draw a tight rectangle your frame after you've put your vp. Remember to use the ghosting method. Then focus on each vertice one at a time ghosting it to the vp. Remember all horizontal lines should be parallel to the vp and all vertical lines should be perpendicular to the vp as i show you here http://imgur.com/a/OBmLCL5 ensure this or all your boxes will be off. When ghosting to the vp make points showing where lines will go through and after that execute them confidently using the ghosting method. Hope I'm clear. If I'm not tell me. Also remember don't rush. And don't guess. Be sure where you want youe lines to go. Guessing will completely throw you box off

  7. Rotated boxes. For a beginner nice work. But I'll have to say your rotation is kinda off. Remember we want a full rotation. But don't worry. You'll come back to it after the 250 box challenge and you'll be better because your mind will have started thinking in 3d.

  8. Organic perspective. There's also a lot of difficulty here. I can't really see depth. And most of your boxes perspective are off. Again first tackle the 250 box challenge and be sure to come back to the 2 exercises.

Well that's your critique. I'll request some revisions and after that I'll mark it complete. Good luck

Next Steps:

  1. 1 page of the rough perspective focusing on the points i said.

  2. Focus on improving your ghosted lines. Ghost more if possible. I'll not request any additional page but be sure to practice every day.

When finished, reply to this critique with your revisions.

Ellipse Master Template

Ellipse Master Template

This recommendation is really just for those of you who've reached lesson 6 and onwards.

I haven't found the actual brand you buy to matter much, so you may want to shop around. This one is a "master" template, which will give you a broad range of ellipse degrees and sizes (this one ranges between 0.25 inches and 1.5 inches), and is a good place to start. You may end up finding that this range limits the kinds of ellipses you draw, forcing you to work within those bounds, but it may still be worth it as full sets of ellipse guides can run you quite a bit more, simply due to the sizes and degrees that need to be covered.

No matter which brand of ellipse guide you decide to pick up, make sure they have little markings for the minor axes.
