Hi MDBOLA, congrats on finishing lesson 1! Let's see those exercises.

Your lines are good! You need a lot of practice but you get better from one page to the other so keep it up.

Your ellipses are also good, some minor errors and I see sometimes you wobble around the ellipse, remember to stay confident and believe in your shoulder, don't get caught in wobbly lines because you want to be accurate, your goal is to build confidence and muscle memory.

For the boxes, you had some issues as you said. I see in rough perspective your lines tend to wobble a bit, make sure you are always drawing in your comfy way (which most of the time is 45 degrees towards dominant hand), because that may be an issue with curving or wobbly lines. Also don't worry about not always using the shoulder pivot, that comes with time, but remember to always correct it when you see yourself sliding towards the elbow, in no time you will stop changing pivot!

Your rotated boxes and organic perspective are very good, and in lesson 1 you showed a good perspective understanding, good job!

Your exercises are mostly good and you absorbed the basic concepts very well, remember to always practice those ellipses and lines in your warmups, to build confidence. I'll give you a pass on the lesson and point you towards the 250 boxes!

Next Steps:

250 boxes challenge.

Good Luck!

Thank you, I appreciate your time and effort to critique my homework. I completely agree about those lines tending to wobble a bit, so I'll try to be more confident next time and apply those warm-ups too. Thanks once again, this was really helpful. I'll keep on going!

These are what I use when doing these exercises. They usually run somewhere in the middle of the price/quality range, and are often sold in sets of different line weights - remember that for the Drawabox lessons, we only really use the 0.5s, so try and find sets that sell only one size.

Alternatively, if at all possible, going to an art supply store and buying the pens in person is often better because they'll generally sell them individually and allow you to test them out before you buy (to weed out any duds).
