To give some context on the sloppy contours: In Lesson 2, what I did in contour curves was ghosting "half of an ellipse" and then executed exactly what I had been ghosting. In Lesson 4, I tried it differently - I did ghosting like how you would do with ellipses but only executed half of the ellipse.

This totally caught me off guard because normally when I transition from ghosting to executing, I always place down my pen roughly where an ellipse and its minor axis meet. As you can see from the pages however, I had to place the pen down at a different position so it is a bit awkward transitioning from ghosting to executing.

Contours misaligned and didn't have proper degree shift as I was focusing on getting the hang of it. You can see I slowly picked up on it as page 2's contours fit more snugly into the body than page 1 but the issue of misalignment and degree shift are still there because I didn't fully "master" this approach yet.

Oh no you missed the refs D: They are in a separate link at the bottom of my long-winded comment so I think what's why you missed it. I wonder if your opinion about some areas of the constructions will change after looking at the references. If so please let me know.

I explain why I have trouble with the contours in the second paragraph of my comment. Basically it can be summed up in this image. I'm breaking my usual habit so it caught me off-guard a bit. One thing I forgot to mention is when I transition from ghosting to executing the contour, I jump right in without any pause. It is a bit different from what you did in the crit video because I notice you pause for a bit before putting down the mark.

I'm a bit confused about what you said around 4:00-4:22 mark. Because from this section, not hooking around the form is a mistake but you here said to keep the hook invisible. Am I misundertood what you said or is there an update to the lesson material that I'm not aware of? Speaking of lesson update, for the leg around 18:45 mark, I follow how the legs are drawn in the wasp demo. At some point I've heard that this method of adding mass becomes obsolete so I wonder if that is the case.

I explain some of the "design choices" of 3rd and 8th construction in this image. Hope it could help clarify things. And yep, in millipede construction I draw body parts using sausages. The oval you see comes from the overlap between two sausages like this.

Thank you for the feedback!

Ohhh oke, you're right about the hooks, i forgot that uncomfy tells you to always make them visible my bad! Yours are a bit too exaggerated though, so I'd try to make them hook, but just a little bit, cuz the thing is in many cases you're close to drawing the ellipse completely, so that might throw you off a little bit when you draw the contours without hooks, but it's just a minor so don't worry too much

the wasp thingy, yeah, that part I think it's outdated, can't find exact diagram that proves that, but this one is pretty close by uncomfy, you can see the thingy about adding forms to sausages on the bottom part.

And about the sausage construction then no problem!

Good job and good luck on lesson 5!

How to Draw by Scott Robertson

When it comes to technical drawing, there's no one better than Scott Robertson. I regularly use this book as a reference when eyeballing my perspective just won't cut it anymore. Need to figure out exactly how to rotate an object in 3D space? How to project a shape in perspective? Look no further.
