Congratulations on getting through this!

First of all, you have good variation on size and shape of your boxes, clean lines, and pretty hatching. However, there are some notable struggles you have.

  1. Sometimes your convergence lines are pointed in the wrong direction. Here is how to get them right, every time: https://imgur.com/a/3YXACR6

  2. Sometimes your boxes do diverge, even in the late stage. (Example with corrections: https://imgur.com/a/JxX5CcQ ) Here is one way of drawing boxes that helped me understand it better: https://imgur.com/a/CP1JmaBA

Next Steps:

So, I imagine the last thing you want to hear right now is "draw more boxes." However, since the convergence lines are often backwards, even by the end, this is my advice: Draw 20 more, and really focus on getting the convergence correct like so: https://imgur.com/a/3YXACR6

I highly recommend getting on the DAB discord if you can, and uploading your work as you go to the section marked as whatever lesson or challenge you're on. It will save you from doing a whole ton of stuff, only to find out that there was something that needed to change about your approach. I've had people catch my fundamental errors early on in a lesson, which helped avoid redos. Also, they have a critique exchange, where you can do 5 critiques and be put on a spreadsheet to have your work critiqued faster!

When finished, reply to this critique with your revisions.

Fabulous, that's what I was looking for!

Next Steps:

On to lesson 2, and remember to do the 50% work!

This community member feels the lesson should be marked as complete, and 2 others agree. The student has earned their completion badge for this lesson and should feel confident in moving onto the next lesson.
Below this point is mostly ads. Indie projects, and tool/course recommendations from us.
This section is reserved for low-cost advertising space for art related indie projects.
With how saturated the market is, it is tough for such projects to get eyes on their work.
By providing this section, we hope to help with that.

The recommendation below is an advertisement. Most of the links here are part of Amazon's affiliate program (unless otherwise stated), which helps support this website. Ellipse Master Template

Ellipse Master Template

This recommendation is really just for those of you who've reached lesson 6 and onwards.

I haven't found the actual brand you buy to matter much, so you may want to shop around. This one is a "master" template, which will give you a broad range of ellipse degrees and sizes (this one ranges between 0.25 inches and 1.5 inches), and is a good place to start. You may end up finding that this range limits the kinds of ellipses you draw, forcing you to work within those bounds, but it may still be worth it as full sets of ellipse guides can run you quite a bit more, simply due to the sizes and degrees that need to be covered.

No matter which brand of ellipse guide you decide to pick up, make sure they have little markings for the minor axes.
