I've got some troubles with branches, especially thinner ones - first with maintaining ellipse widths through the branch and as following, can't avoid chicken scratch lines going way too off the line to somehow maintain the direction, for a reason I feel more comfortable with longer curves? Also, should I now go for the 250 cylinder challenge or rather lesson 4?

The branches are fine and yes longer lines are easier but don't worry about that right now just keep practicing. My only critique would be the ribbons. Some of them have their shadows being casted on the wrong side and I suggest you do 2 pages of ribbons whenever you can. Just take it slow and pay attention to where the shadows should be casted on. And don't do the 250 cylinders now, finish lesson 4 and 5 before that. I'm marking this as completed.

Right from when students hit the 50% rule early on in Lesson 0, they ask the same question - "What am I supposed to draw?"
It's not magic. We're made to think that when someone just whips off interesting things to draw, that they're gifted in a way that we are not.
