Hi Amine2 I'll be handling the critique for your 250 box challenge, but first of all let me congratulate you upon completing it as it certainly requires time and patience.

-Starting with your linework, it is coming along nicely, you have drawn smooth confident lines, but I have a few observations.

  • Keep in mind that when adding lineweight we want to ghost each additional line and only add one extra superimposed line as we want to keep it subtle

  • You only want to add lineweight to the lines representing the silhouette of he box, not to the internal lines, this is a minor observation I don't think you made this mistake a lot.

-What I do want to stress is that you also have to ghost through your hatching lines, they have to be as smooth and straight as possible as they are sitting on top of a completely lat surface, you are moving in the right direction here but you could be more tidy.

-Most of your boxes have their vanishing points inside the page, don't be afraid to have some outside the page, I know you worked in A4 pages, but you could definitely improve by experimenting and seeing how it goes.

  • Drawing boxes with more shallow rates of foreshortening will help you because the subjects you'll be drawing in later lessons aren't particularly big.

-You made a good job aiming at the vanishing points, so good job there.

  • For your next warm ups I'd like you to experiment more with the orientations and angle of your boxes, you can use this image as reference.

-Keep an eye out for lines converging in pairs as shown here, te key things we want to remember from this exercise are that our lines should always converge as a set not in pairs, never diverge from the vanishing point and due to perspective they won't be completely parallel.

Next Steps:

You can move on to the next lesson.

Thank you very much! I will have to take all your observations to heart as I'm heading thru the next lesson.

Again, thank you for your time.

Cottonwood Arts Sketchbooks

These are my favourite sketchbooks, hands down. Move aside Moleskine, you overpriced gimmick. These sketchbooks are made by entertainment industry professionals down in Los Angeles, with concept artists in mind. They have a wide variety of sketchbooks, such as toned sketchbooks that let you work both towards light and towards dark values, as well as books where every second sheet is a semitransparent vellum.
