Question on Lesson 6 and measurement

I am starting lesson 6 and I have done an initial run through of the lesson and demos. I have a question about measurement. I did not see any lessons on measuring the proportions of the object you are drawing and using those to establish line lengths. I know (from other sources) that measurement can be done in perspective but it does not appear here. I am assuming that we are just trying to establish rough ratios or perhaps measurement could be used to establish the orthographic views of some objects. I know exact proportions are not the focus of these lessons, but I was wondering if I missed anything. Thanks for any insight you can provide.

This is correct. The focus is not on accuracy, but rather precision - that means deciding what proportions you're going to aim for ahead of time, but not strictly requiring them to be entirely correct. There will likely be situations where you fudge things a bit - taking something that is 39/50ths along the length of a given dimension, and deciding to put it at 4/5ths for the sake of simplicity. As long as that is a decision you've made ahead of time, in your orthographic plan, then that's entirely fine.

These are what I use when doing these exercises. They usually run somewhere in the middle of the price/quality range, and are often sold in sets of different line weights - remember that for the Drawabox lessons, we only really use the 0.5s, so try and find sets that sell only one size.

Alternatively, if at all possible, going to an art supply store and buying the pens in person is often better because they'll generally sell them individually and allow you to test them out before you buy (to weed out any duds).
