Be as critical as necessary, I can take it. No, I have to take it. Criticism is how I will learn and improve.

Hello, I'll be reviewing your homework today.

I'll be brief because all the exercises were followed very closely, the only mistakes I see are the ones us begginers have to deal with and go away with practice and being aware

A little more time and patience with ghosting your marks, ellipses are alright for now

when making some of the boxes I think you might have forgotten to ghost the lines first, you'll be able to sketch out lines and make swift marks with practice, right now stick with making marks on the side that is comfortable for you and plan a bit more, when you do the lines come out really well. Plotting dots down first, even for ellipses, is a great way to execute all sorts of marks, I don't see many points but that could be because they're very small.

You could've filled in a few more elipses on the table of ellipses pages but because they look fine all around I'll give you a pass.

Next Steps:

You may move on to the 250 box challenge while waiting on your badge for this lesson, remember to keep to the 50/50 rule and have fun, this journey should be an enjoyable one, pace yourself and you'll do great.

The following are my personal recommendations and are NOT part of the draw-a-box program.

There's a video by a user named Telepurte on yotube named "82 | Some Drawing Exercises" using the techniques in Draw-A-Box you can do these warm ups before drawing or on days where you might not have time, should take about 5-15 minutes depending on how many you do.

I suggest taking on a 30-day drawing challenge as well, there's a video on youtube by Marc Brunet and a book title "You can draw in 30 days" you can use the skills you earned so far to take these on.

While waiting on homework to be checked you can also look into gesture drawing, starting with 2-5 minute poses, its a great way to train the artist eye and recognize forms and patterns.

This community member feels the lesson should be marked as complete. In order for the student to receive their completion badge, this critique will need 2 agreements from other members of the community.

Thank you so much for the feedback. The advice you gave has been very helpful. Just finished the 250 boxes challenge exercise, and have seen some growth. I'll keep working on my improvement.

The recommendation below is an advertisement. Most of the links here are part of Amazon's affiliate program (unless otherwise stated), which helps support this website. It's also more than that - it's a hand-picked recommendation of something I've used myself. If you're interested, here is a full list.

Let's be real here for a second: fineliners can get pricey. It varies from brand to brand, store to store, and country to country, but good fineliners like the Staedtler Pigment Liner (my personal brand favourite) can cost an arm and a leg. I remember finding them being sold individually at a Michael's for $4-$5 each. That's highway robbery right there.

Now, we're not a big company ourselves or anything, but we have been in a position to periodically import large batches of pens that we've sourced ourselves - using the wholesale route to keep costs down, and then to split the savings between getting pens to you for cheaper, and setting some aside to one day produce our own.

These pens are each hand-tested (on a little card we include in the package) to avoid sending out any duds (another problem with pens sold in stores). We also checked out a handful of different options before settling on this supplier - mainly looking for pens that were as close to the Staedtler Pigment Liner. If I'm being honest, I think these might even perform a little better, at least for our use case in this course.

We've also tested their longevity. We've found that if we're reasonably gentle with them, we can get through all of Lesson 1, and halfway through the box challenge. We actually had ScyllaStew test them while recording realtime videos of her working through the lesson work, which you can check out here, along with a variety of reviews of other brands.

Now, I will say this - we're only really in a position to make this an attractive offer for those in the continental United States (where we can offer shipping for free). We do ship internationally, but between the shipping prices and shipping times, it's probably not the best offer you can find - though this may depend. We also straight up can't ship to the UK, thanks to some fairly new restrictions they've put into place relating to their Brexit transition. I know that's a bummer - I'm Canadian myself - but hopefully one day we can expand things more meaningfully to the rest of the world.
