So, I'm done with lesson 1 and I really enjoyed most of it (looking at you organic perspective). I feel like my lines significantly improved though on that part, is drawabox some sort of black magic? jk If you guys have any time to look at some noob's work, I'll really appreciate it.

I'll hold off some of my own thoughts now so I can really understand another perspective on my work. Thank you again for doing this!

Lesson 1 Zelos

Superimposed Lines:

They are good for the most part but remember that you can also practice with shorter lines, that’s easier for the beginning. Also, include this exercise in your warm ups. Otherwise, the lines are confident and relatively smooth.

Ghosted Lines:

Solid for now. They are still wobbly, that gets better with more practice. Also, try not to worry about accuracy while executing the lines; doing them faster might help.

Planes:

A bit less hesitation in the lines. Good. Ellipses fit nicely too and are quite confident.

Ellipses:

Good, you tried to fit them into the spaces and they are quite confident. Incorporating them into your warm ups is still a good idea.

Funnels:

Ellipses fit nicely into the funnels and most of them are aligned well with the minor axis.

Plotted Perspective:

Quite good but remember that the hatching doesn’t have to be on the same side for all the boxes, in the second panel on the right, you could hatch the front or top face to make it clearer. Also, in the third panel, the box on the far right I don’t quite understand the hatching. Seems like you hatched the right side, but we should shade any side that faces the viewer.

Rough Perspective:

Good. Just remember that the width lines should be parallel to the horizon and the height lines should be perpendicular to it.

Rotated Boxes:

That’s a very good first attempt. You can revisit the exercise after the 250 Box Challenge to see your improvement.

Organic Perspective:

Good. You had a solid amount of variety in your boxes, you could still vary the Ys a bit more though but the variety you have is okay. Lines are still slightly shaky sometimes but much better than before.

Overall, you did very well on all the exercises. You should still do Ellipses in Planes and idk Rough Perspective as warm ups. I hope I wasn't too harsh and that you could get something out of it. Let me know if I should improve anything about my critique.

Next Steps:

You are ready to move on to the 250 Box Challenge. Good luck and have fun!

Thank you so much! I'll take note of my warm-ups and improve on them. I really appreciate it!

Faber Castell PITT Artist Pens

Faber Castell PITT Artist Pens

Like the Staedtlers, these also come in a set of multiple weights - the ones we use are F. One useful thing in these sets however (if you can't find the pens individually) is that some of the sets come with a brush pen (the B size). These can be helpful in filling out big black areas.

Still, I'd recommend buying these in person if you can, at a proper art supply store. They'll generally let you buy them individually, and also test them out beforehand to weed out any duds.
