Hi everyone, this is my completed lesson #1.

The ellipses in planes are done on the same pages as ghosted planes, FIY.

A little about my abilities: I'm a beginner, I've never drawn before, never took any lessons or even watched any drawing tutorials. I began to make a little sense of perspective and pretty sure I've spent 2 nights dreaming of only rotated boxes, which is awesome cuz it means my brain is processing hard what is being learnt, but obviously I still have a looong way to go. Anyhoo, let the critique begin XD

Hi EnchantressOfAether,

I hope you are well. I can see you put in great effort and followed the instructions really well. Your lines are looking really good too and you're executing with confidence which is super important in this lesson.

As you mentioned, the rotated boxes is tough (good thing you're dreaming about it lols). I did draw up a quick tip for you on how to adjust the boxes so that the edge boxes were rotated a bit better. You did quite well on the boxes on a string though which is tough!

I'd say you're good to go for the 250 box challenge. To your comment about being a beginner, you will exceed even the best of visual artists as long as you're persistent and always learning, so just keep going and if you really want it you'll have it.

Next Steps:

Move on to the 250 box challenge.

Hi MAHARLIKANS,

Thank you for words of encouragement and even bigger thanks for the tip! I'll try to integrate it when doing the 250 boxes challenge, which I will move on next to as per your suggestion.

Yes, the boxes on a string really got my neurons firing trying to make sense of perspective and boxes in 3D space, more than they ever did in a math class. But these lessons work! I woke up looking at things differently, I notice perspective everywhere now in relation to everyday objects. Amazing how things just go unnoticed.

Anyway, I appreciate your time commenting on this homework.

Rapid Viz

Rapid Viz

Rapid Viz is a book after mine own heart, and exists very much in the same spirit of the concepts that inspired Drawabox. It's all about getting your ideas down on the page, doing so quickly and clearly, so as to communicate them to others. These skills are not only critical in design, but also in the myriad of technical and STEM fields that can really benefit from having someone who can facilitate getting one person's idea across to another.

Where Drawabox focuses on developing underlying spatial thinking skills to help facilitate that kind of communication, Rapid Viz's quick and dirty approach can help students loosen up and really move past the irrelevant matters of being "perfect" or "correct", and focus instead on getting your ideas from your brain, onto the page, and into someone else's brain as efficiently as possible.
