Heya! Congratulation for completing the first lesson.

What pen did you use for doing this first lesson? Though ballpoint is allowed in this lesson, felt-liner or drawing pen is very recommended. Your lines sometimes look too bold and in the other time look too thin. Or it's just the camera or the light when you take the photo?

Well, let's talk how you're doing the homework:

First, the lines. You're good already for placing the starting point of Superimposed Lines. You only need to fix the arching lines. Remember to use (mostly) on your shoulder pivot, instead elbow pivot (or the worst, wrist pivot). In Ghosted Lines, your lines less arching and a bit wobbly. Then, your Ghosted Planes is good. The 2 problems that I mentioned before slightly seen, and it's good!

Second, the ellipses, the hardest part of this lesson. Indeed, you need many improvement in this section. Most of your lines aren't drawn confidently nor prioritizing confidence and smoothness. Some of the ellipses in Ellipse in Plane are only drawn once, not 2 to 3 times. In this exercise too, you seems drawn aimed for accuracy. It seen from the deformed ellipses. For Funnels exercise, I think you have a good job to put the ellipses in minor axis (middle line), despite its uneven shape. Don't rush and take your time for doing ghosting method!

Last, the boxes. I think you doesn't have any issue on Plotted Perspective, meanwhile in Rough Perspective I just want to remind you that in one point of VP drawn, width lines should be parallel to horizon and height lines perpendicular to horizon.. Then, though there some part of Rotated Boxes and Organic Perspective that you could improve, we can left as it before. You can do this exercise in other time for recall what you learn. Just remember that closer object always look big for viewer and further object will look small for viewer.

Anyway, you'll learn perspective and box by doing next challenge, so don't worry....

Any questions?

Next Steps:

I think, you only need to improve your ellipses, so here my suggestions:

1.Draw planes on a piece of paper and put ellipse on them (Ellipse in Plane) as warm up. Don't be afraid to vary the shape of the plane

2.Redoing your Table of Ellipses homework (2 pages)

Hi !

First of all, sorry for the delay of answer, i had informatic troubles for a couple time until now ! Then, thank you for your time and your review, it is very constructive.

I'd used a felt-liner pen at 0.5mm, not in very good health, i'd trouble to use it and dose my strength in the beginning... And still a bit actually. I think it's an amalgam of three, bad camera, artificials lights & bad utilisation of the felt-liner.

No question, sir ! Thank for your encouragement !

Color and Light by James Gurney

Color and Light by James Gurney

Some of you may remember James Gurney's breathtaking work in the Dinotopia series. This is easily my favourite book on the topic of colour and light, and comes highly recommended by any artist worth their salt. While it speaks from the perspective of a traditional painter, the information in this book is invaluable for work in any medium.
