Hi everyone, here's my homework for Lesson 1!

I quit art as a whole for around 2-3 months between doing the 'Rough Perspective' and the 'Rotated Boxes' exercises, but I did quite a few warmup sessions and re-read a lot of this lesson before getting back into doing the homework, so I (hopefully) still did the last two exercises to a standard that fits the rest of my work.

Any critique and tips on what I should work on would be extremely appreciated! Thank you very much for reading :)

Hi!

This feels good to me. The only thing that tickles me is your surimposed lines : it seems that they go quickly off track.

It's weird since your ellipses show great confidency.

Same thing in your last exercise : the organic boxes. You surimposed a lot of lines, and I don't clearly understand why.

Maybe you can insist of your ghosting while tracing simple lines.

Good work nevertheless!

Next Steps:

I would suggest you continue along (250 boxes to eat!), and keep the "ghosted planes + ellipses" exercise as a warmup, to keep reinforcing your accuracy and confidency in your overall line marking.

Hi!

Yes, I definitely see what you're talking about. It was a long time ago when I did the superimposed lines, so I don't exactly remember what I was struggling with, but I definitely know I struggled in the organic box exercise when I was trying to add lineweight to the outside of the boxes (which is why there are so many superimposed lines).

I'll practice improving my supermposed lines in my warmups and move onto the 250 box challenge :)

Thank you for your time and feedback!

Pentel Pocket Brush Pen

Pentel Pocket Brush Pen

This is a remarkable little pen. Technically speaking, any brush pen of reasonable quality will do, but I'm especially fond of this one. It's incredibly difficult to draw with (especially at first) due to how much your stroke varies based on how much pressure you apply, and how you use it - but at the same time despite this frustration, it's also incredibly fun.

Moreover, due to the challenge of its use, it teaches you a lot about the nuances of one's stroke. These are the kinds of skills that one can carry over to standard felt tip pens, as well as to digital media. Really great for doodling and just enjoying yourself.
