Hello~

Here are my boxes. It was really difficult to do them. I was constantly thinking on just quite all but I'm pretty happy with the fact that I was able to keep going till the end.

This is my second attempt to upload my images on imgur, hopefully now all of them are in the album.

Please check my boxes and give me some advices to keep them going to the same vanishing point (I mean I really tried to imagine it while drawing them but always there were some lines missing it).

Any feedback is welcomed!!

Hi there, feedback for 250 Boxes.

Well done with linework, it's strong and confident throughout. Boxes are well presented, the heavier lineweight on the outline looks crisp and sharp. Lesson 2 and beyond you will draw more complex shapes and lots of lines, so this confidence with linework will serve you well in future!

A few additional things that could've been done:

  • This is not a big deal, but there wasn't any hatching (straight lines) drawn on the box faces, which was recommended in the lessons. This gives a sense of 3-D volume on the page when the viewer can see which face is facing toward them; plus it's more linework practice. :) But not a big issue.

  • The vast majority of boxes were quite similar in dimensions/perspective, although you drew some flat/long boxes. Again, this is not a big issue, but more varied shapes of boxes (flat, long, more variation in the original Y) would give more practice having to figure out different lengths and orientations of the edges; plus, it breaks up the monotony of drawing the similar kind of box over and over.

How to make the edges converge to the vanishing point - You did pretty well overall! But here are a few more strategies:

  • The back corner/back edge is usually the one that goes way off track, so draw that back corner earlier in the box construction process. This picture shows when to do it: https://imgur.com/FGdtVwm

  • Instead of just trying to draw each edge by estimating the VP, compare the position of all 4 edges and the angles between them. There's a relationship between the edges and their angles. See this picture: https://i.imgur.com/8PqQLE0.png

Overall, really good job, and congrats on reaching the end of the gauntlet. When you've recovered from this box overload :) you can draw a few of them now and again during warmups, to keep that spatial understanding and construction fresh in your skills.

Hola!

Color and Light by James Gurney

Some of you may remember James Gurney's breathtaking work in the Dinotopia series. This is easily my favourite book on the topic of colour and light, and comes highly recommended by any artist worth their salt. While it speaks from the perspective of a traditional painter, the information in this book is invaluable for work in any medium.
