Lesson 1: Lines, Ellipses and Boxes
1:33 AM, Wednesday July 15th 2020
Had a lot of trouble with the final 2 hw assignments. Any and all comments greatly appreciated!
Hi overall good job and congrats finishing first lesson :)
Lines
Lines are looking fine, though they do get a bit wobbly especially in boxes.
Ellipses
Ellipses are wobbly. Remember that in ellipses as well as lines you should try to do them as confident as you can, don't hesitate in sacrificing accuracy to get them smoother and more confident.
Also don't draw through ellipses more than 2-3 times.
Boxes
On boxes you missed perspective, which is completely fine, as you'll work on it in boxes challenge.
Overall good job.
Next Steps:
In order to mark this lesson as complete I'd need to do the following:
- 1 page of planes and ellipses.
-1 page of tables of ellipses.
I'll be waiting and good luck.
Hi, your ellipses are looking better, though they do get a bit wobbly, so don't forget to keep working on them in your warm up ;)
Good luck and keep it up bro)

Next Steps:
Continue to use these exercises as part of your warm ups (about 10-15 minutes)
Feel free to move onto the 250 box challenge
Don’t forget to take breaks and draw for fun!
Also, now that you’ve completed Lesson 1, I encourage you to critique some Lesson 1 community submissions. Not only will this help the community, but it will also solidify and reinforce your understanding of the material. Of course, this is optional (but we’d be especially grateful!). If you’d like to give it a shot, see this guide that was created by one of our community members on how to go about critiquing Lesson 1.
These are what I use when doing these exercises. They usually run somewhere in the middle of the price/quality range, and are often sold in sets of different line weights - remember that for the Drawabox lessons, we only really use the 0.5s, so try and find sets that sell only one size.
Alternatively, if at all possible, going to an art supply store and buying the pens in person is often better because they'll generally sell them individually and allow you to test them out before you buy (to weed out any duds).
