line weight in 250 box challenge

9:21 AM, Wednesday December 9th 2020

Hello,

I am doing the 250 box challenge and I have a question about line thickness. I read that it was necessary to make twice the contours and the lines which are in front.

**Wouldn't it be easier to make the outline and front lines with one type of pen and the "invisible" lines (those behind) with another pen?

And what size pen should I use?**

I have Staedtler pigment liner (0.05, 0.1, 0.2, 0.3 and 0.5). I also have G-tech C4 pilots (which I use for color)

Here are my first attempts: https://imgur.com/YUDamgw

Thanks for your advices,

Axel

Hi!

Line weight is an application of the superimposed lines exercise practiced in Lesson 1 and must be applied with the same 0.5 fineliner you have used to draw your box.

There are no exceptions here :)

Good luck with the challenge!

Hey Axel,

Uncomfortable explained in his Video from Lesson 1 ("use your arm") that you shouldn't switch pens within a drawing (https://youtu.be/gAtmiQgW6As?t=1251, should start at the specific time where he explains). This is also stated in Lesson 0 about the different pens to use, if I'm not mistaken.

So stick with the 0.5 and try to achieve the different lineweights with pressure. :)

So have fun with the challenge.

These are my favourite sketchbooks, hands down. Move aside Moleskine, you overpriced gimmick. These sketchbooks are made by entertainment industry professionals down in Los Angeles, with concept artists in mind. They have a wide variety of sketchbooks, such as toned sketchbooks that let you work both towards light and towards dark values, as well as books where every second sheet is a semitransparent vellum.
