  • You re drawing your boxes around the same size and the edges are generally at the same angle so you re underestimating. Thats why you re boxes doesnt vary much, they look alike and you re missing the chance to make you re scenes interesting and sometimes boxes doesnt fit the scene accurately.
  1. My suggestion is go crazy. Draw extremely big or small. Tilt you re angles more and more hopefully they will balance themselves.

  2. Take notes on each page as you re criticizesing yourself write what you specificly wrong and how to fix it which helped me improve a lot more faster.

  • I think drawing boxes from referance for a while will help you to learn what an actual box in perspective looks like .

Just like in 250 box challenge use ruler and see how you re edges converge you can check the challenge if you dont know how to check you re boxes. What I mean is instead of checking if it looks like the referance , check if it is correct thats what will improve you.

  • U learn more even from the teacher as you write down you re own critique and discover new ways to draw as you draw more and more JUST DONT BE DISCOURAGED. KEEP GOING THE WHOLE COMMUNITY IS PRACTISING WITH YOU TO BE ABLE TO DRAW HOW WE ALL DESIRED TO DRAW HOWEVER WE WANT COMFORTABLY.

Hi there :) Congrats on getting lesson 1 done!! I hope this feedback helps you.

Lines

Your lines look good! For the Ghosted Lines practice you very consistently hit the first dot and very closely missed the second. I have no doubt that with practice you will hit the second dot consistently. Try to incorporate ghosted lines practice frequently in your warm up exercises to tighten it down. The only other thing I think you should keep in mind is that your lines have an overarching curve to them in places. Try curving slightly in the opposite direction to straighten out your line.

Ellipses

Nice ellipses. Make sure to remember that when doing the funnel exercise, the minor axis is supposed to cut the ellipses into two symmetrical halves. Some of your ellipses could be a little lopsided, so when you eventually go over these exercises again as warm ups, aim for making your ellipses more even. Also, always remember to draw ellipses, even small ones, with your shoulder rather than the wrist.

Boxes

I noticed that your width and height lines slanted sometimes in the Rough Perspective Exercise. When drawing out boxes in perspective with the horizon line and vanishing points, keep your width lines parallel to the horizon and height lines perpendicular to the horizon. This helps sell the 3d image, and it's depth. This can be hard to do freehand, but like most things this will improve with practice. Just remember to make confident strokes and draw from your shoulder. The 250 box challenge will help you out with most of your perspective mistakes.

Next Steps:

  1. If you want to, you can do another page of funnels for ellipse practice.

  2. Remember to dedicate 10-15 minutes before every drawing session to do one of these practice exercises.

  3. Start the 250 box challenge.

Good luck!

Like the Staedtlers, these also come in a set of multiple weights - the ones we use are F. One useful thing in these sets however (if you can't find the pens individually) is that some of the sets come with a brush pen (the B size). These can be helpful in filling out big black areas.

Still, I'd recommend buying these in person if you can, at a proper art supply store. They'll generally let you buy them individually, and also test them out beforehand to weed out any duds.
