I have a question on submitting in the future, i have submitted my homework through goggle photos and am unsure if it works, if it dose not work please let me know.

also very unsure if i am even on the right track, the rotating boxes homework gave me a hard time because their were to many lines.

Hey Yuvver,

It seems to me that they can be viewed without having a google account and/or downloading anything, so it seems ok.

Also, I'll preface this by saying I just finished lesson 1, so take what I say with a grain of salt.

  • Lines:

    • Superimposed lines - All clear, except maybe the circle, though it's a tough one, especially as we learn ghosting later.

    • The ghosted ones - Nice too, though is some slight "bendiness" being introduced. I think for the purpose of this exercice, it is better to draw the stroke with confidence and let it end wherever it ends.

    • Ghosted planes - Good, we can see improvement from the ghosted lines.

  • Ellipses:

    • Table of ellipses - Some of the ellipses struggle with keeping their shape, becoming pointy, I think this can be solved with some extra ghosting before drawing.

    • Funnels - Pay attention to rotating the ellipses, so that they appear thinner and thinner as they get close to the center of the funnels. Good job on keeping the central axis of the funnel in line with the minor axis of the ellipses. It is slightly tilted at times though (mostly visible on the top right hand corner)

  • Boxes:

    • Plotted - Good

    • Rough - Good too, some lines seem slightly off their marks and have been redrawn, I think some more ghosting would fix that

    • Rotating - I think some more accentuated rotation would help, otherwise good job

    • Organic - I believe we're meant to do this exercise 3 times per page. Ignoring that, some edges could use being more "parallel" to their sisters. Not sure what else to say, that a tough exercise.

Next Steps:

Please go over the last exercise again, drawing the boxes in more concise scenes, 3 per pages

Everything else looks good to me, great job.

I'm not an official teacher / assistant, so if you are paying for the course, you should wait for a review from them.

Otherwise, the course strongly recommends doing the 250 boxes before moving on to lesson 2, so I'd recommend that too.

I'm getting through the challenge myself, all I can really recommend is to take your time and not to rush it.

Next Steps:

The 250 Box Challenge.

This community member feels the lesson should be marked as complete, and 2 others agree. The student has earned their completion badge for this lesson and should feel confident in moving onto the next lesson.

Steven Zapata's Secrets of Shading

Some of you will have noticed that Drawabox doesn't teach shading at all. Rather, we focus on the understanding of the spatial relationships between the form we're drawing, which feeds into how one might go about applying shading. When it comes time to learn about shading though, you're going to want to learn it from Steven Zapata, hands down.

Take a look at his portfolio, and you'll immediately see why.
