Hi, I'm Znorb, and I'm going to do your lesson 2 critique:

    Arrows

I see you are doing a great job on the size of the arrows, the size of the arrows should become smaller because they're getting farther away

There are some things you can improve on, for example, some arrows have edges that don't overlap (https://d15v304a6xpq4b.cloudfront.net/lesson_images/1e23d6b7.jpg)

    Organic forms

The main thing I can see is that some of the organic sausages you draw are elongated and thin. Don't try to make the shape too long. Try to make the sausage shape more simple, like if the shape was 2 spheres of similar size connected by a tube with a consistent width:

    https://drawabox.com/lesson/2/contourlines

    https://d15v304a6xpq4b.cloudfront.net/lesson_images/5616829d.jpg

    https://d15v304a6xpq4b.cloudfront.net/lesson_images/0128c0e3.jpg

    Textures

When doing the textures, try to not make chicken scratching, focus more on the shape of the cast shadow and then fill it. In the texture analysis video demonstration shows a way to do this

    Textures in organic forms

Something I could say about the textures is that some of the textures should break the silhouette. When drawing the texture, don't be afraid of breaking the silhouette, because it helps you understanding how the form of the texture works and how it wraps around the sausage. For example, in the strawberry texture, you could've put seeds that break the silhouette of the shape, and in the pangolin texture, the shapes of the pangolin should break the silhouette

    https://d15v304a6xpq4b.cloudfront.net/lesson_images/423fe2b2.jpg

    Form intersections

I see you are doing great with the boxes intersection page. In the other pages you should've added more shaped, like in the box page.

Other thing I see is that some of the boxes have a more distorted perspective than others, remember that the boxes should have a very similar distortion, so is recommended to make the boxes with less dramatic distortion (https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/503600256374669324/1092172418488995851/Untitled.jpg?ex=66407314&is=663f2194&hm=c5c8d3d31f93eee78f4065b27e515219d85b487055b79160486c771c908c75ee&) . Besides that, I see you did a great job on the form intersections page

    Organic intersections

I can see the same mistake on the organic intersections about the form. Try to not overcomplicate the shapes of the saugages, try to stick on simple sausages (https://d15v304a6xpq4b.cloudfront.net/lesson_images/4213ce18.jpg)

I can see that some of the shapes aren't laying, when doing the shapes, try to lay all the sausages in perpendicular, keep in mind that the sausages are 3d and they have volume (https://d15v304a6xpq4b.cloudfront.net/lesson_images/5de674b5.jpg)

And again, try to not do chicken scratching when doing the shapes of the cast shadows

After all of this, I can see that you are getting better at drawing, and if you continue practicing the exercises of the lesson 2 and lesson 1, you will become better and you will see the mistakes of your previous drawings.

I will mark this lesson as completed, keep practicing the concepts of the other lessons having in mind the corrections, good luck with the lesson 3!!

You should check the texture challenge too, it will help you a lot with the texturing.

Hi, I'm znorb and I'm going to do your critique

Lines: I see that in your ghosted/superimposed lines your lines start getting wobbly sometimes, probably because you aren't getting used to draw with the shoulder, sometimes I see a bit of arching on the lines on the ghosted lines exercise too, and in the planes exercise I can see that the lines start getting more and more confident, which is great.

Ellipses: Something I would improve is that I see when you do the ellipses they start getting wobbly sometimes. Always remember to ghost the ellipse 2-3 times before doing the ellipse. In your ellipses on planes I see that the confidence improves. In that same exercise there are some ellipses that don't touch the points of the plane, remember that the ellipses should touch the 4 points of the plane. You did great with the funnels exercise fitting all the ellipses on the funnel

Boxes: In your boxes exercise you did the steps correctly, you added the depth lines to the boxes in the rough perspective, and you drew through the boxes on all the exercises, which is great. The main thing I would notice here is that sometimes in the exercises of boxes you repeated the lines for the boxes. Remember to not repeat the lines to correct the boxes, you shouldn't be repeating lines when doing the exercises. In your organic perspective exercises some of the small boxes start chicken scratching, remember that when drawing the lines of the boxes they should be a single, confident line even if the box is small (https://drawabox.com/lesson/1/3/continuous)

After all of the mistakes, I see that you did the steps properly on every exercise and if you keep practicing those exercises as warmups, you will get better at them and the mistakes will become less and less relevant. Good luck with the next challenge

Hi I'm znorb and I'm doing your lesson 1 critique:

Starting with lines, in your super imposed lines your lines are fraying in both sides, with both sides I mean this example: https://d15v304a6xpq4b.cloudfront.net/lesson_images/1585f266.jpg try to position the pen correctly before doing the line when doing superimposed lines

In ghosted lines your lines there are some arching lines (https://d15v304a6xpq4b.cloudfront.net/lesson_images/c0b6ec1a.jpg). Try to arc on the opposite direction of the line, like it says on the part of the arching lines: https://drawabox.com/lesson/1/ghostedlines

I saw your ellipses exercises and you did the steps correctly, something I would see here is that in the ellipses of planes exercise, some ellipses don't touch the points (https://drawabox.com/lesson/1/ellipsesinplanes). In your table of ellipses exercise there are some wobbly ellipses. Remember to ghost the ellipses too like it's said on this image https://d15v304a6xpq4b.cloudfront.net/lesson_images/a76a8906.jpg

In the boxes exercises I see some things you can improve, for example the confidence on lines when drawing boxes. In the rough perspective you applied the lines correctly, something I would improve about this exercise is some height line of the boxes aren't perpendicular to the horizon, and some width lines aren't parallel to the horizon line

If you keep doing the concepts as warmups, you will improve after the practice, feel free to move onto the 250 box challenge, good luck with it

Hi, I'm znorb and I'm doing your critique today:

-In your arrows exercises the lines are going from small to big, and lineweight is well applied, that's great.

Something I would improve is that a part of some of your arrows aren't overlapping, here's an example of what I'm saying https://d15v304a6xpq4b.cloudfront.net/lesson_images/1e23d6b7.jpg , the lines should be overlapping even if the part is getting further to us and getting smaller from the distance

-In your organic forms exercises, in the page of contour ellipses the sausages doesn't have a ellipse degree change, even if the sausage is straight, the ellipse degree should change: https://imgur.com/rXLBxSg https://d15v304a6xpq4b.cloudfront.net/lesson_images/061ed3b6.jpg

    Textures:

-You did a good job in the transition, it goes to black-white and I see you are using cast shadows instead of the outlines, and that's great. Something I would improve on the textures exercises is in dissections exercise, the texture isn't wrapping the form, and some of the textures aren't breaking the silhouette (https://d15v304a6xpq4b.cloudfront.net/lesson_images/423fe2b2.jpg)

    Construction:

-You did great with adding the shallow foreshortening on the form intersections, I also see an improvement of the confidence lines from the other exercises from other lessons. In organic intersections something I could say is to try to stay away from the complex forms and try to keep the sausages simpler https://d15v304a6xpq4b.cloudfront.net/lesson_images/4213ce18.jpg and the lineweight on the lines should be done with confidence too

Over all those mistakes, I see that you improved over the lessons and if you keep practicing the exercises on warmups (also including the other exercises from previous lessons), the mistakes will become less noticeable and you will improve.

You can go to the next lesson, I would recommend to do the texture challenge too

Hi, I'm ZNorb and I will do your lesson 1 critique:

    Lines:

-I see you are not doing chicken scratching or repeated lines on your line exercises, that's great, and I see that you followed the steps of the exercises properly

-Something I found is that in the ghosted lines and the planes exercise, some of your lines are arching and some of them start getting wobbly. Remember that you should prioritize confidence over accuracy (https://drawabox.com/lesson/1/3/smooth)

-In the superimposed lines some of the lines are fraying in both sides (https://d15v304a6xpq4b.cloudfront.net/lesson_images/1585f266.jpg)

    Ellipses:

-When looking at your pages, I see that your ellipses are more confident than your lines, you ghosted before doing it and that's great too.

-In the table of ellipses exercise there are some ellipses that cross the edge of the lines, and some ellipses overlapping other ellipses. In the ellipses in planes some of the ellipses don't touch the 4 points on the planes

    Boxes:

-In your boxes exercise I see you followed the steps properly too. Some of the boxes have repeated lines like on your rough perspective and organic perspective exercises. Other thing I see is that in your plotted perspective exercise one of the boxes looks like a bunch of boxes combined to make a complex form. The point of the exercise is to make an introduction to perspective by making boxes in 2 point perspective, don't make it more complex because that would be confusing (https://drawabox.com/lesson/1/plottedperspective).

-In your rough perspective exercise some of the height lines aren't perpendicular to the horizon line

It's completely normal to have mistakes because we are learning, and with more practice mistakes like these will become less and less relevant. I will mark this lesson as complete.

Keep practicing the exercises as a warmup and good luck with the 250 box challenge.

Hi, I’m ZNorb and I’m going to do the 250 box challenge ciritique:

    **Things you can work on:

-Some of your boxes (ex: 2,5,57,84,127,229,232,250) converge in pairs as shown in this image: https://i.imgur.com/KSHwTwo.png

It might help if you think of the relation of the lines as a set of angles of the shape in respective to the vanishing points that the box has. Here’s an example of what I’m saying: https://imgur.com/8PqQLE0

-Another mistake I see is that there are lines that diverge rather than converge (e.g.: 7,85,123,125,157,249), and there are boxes that converge in parallel (e.g.: 77, 109). The lines of the boxes should be touched at the vanishing point, here’s an example of what I’m trying to say about the divergence: https://imgur.com/mWLlnYl

-Although the lineweight is not a requirement of the challenge, it's a recommendation that you also work on it, and in future lessons they also talk about the lineweight ( https://imgur.com/OHvr7Mb https:///d15v304a6xpq4b.cloudfront.net/lesson_images/980a575e.jpg https://drawabox.com/lesson/250boxes/1/lineweight )

*-The key things we want to remember from this exercise is that the lines should converge in a set and not in pairs, neither diverge from the vanishing point nor make the box completely parallel

    **Good things I’ve seen:

-I can see that the lines are made with confidence, lines doesn't have chicken scratching or arching

-You did not forget to make the hatching lines

-You did a good job doing a lot of different perspectives making boxes in many different ways. Experimenting is a very important habit that helps a lot when you want to learn a new skill, keep experimenting!

-Your boxes are getting a lot better and in your last half of boxes the divergences/parallel lines happen much less often

I will mark this lesson as complete, keep doing the boxes and the exercises from the previous lesson as a warmup

    Good luck with lesson 2

Lines: In lines exercises I can see some wobbly lines, that’s because you’re not used to using your shoulder when drawing. In drawabox, you should draw with the shoulder. You will get used to draw with the shoulder with more practice. In ghosted lines and ghosted plans I can see repeated lines, remember that in exercises you should not repeat lines, and you should leave the line even if you have not executed it correctly. I also see that in these exercises there are arching lines, this is solved by doing the arc in the opposite side. https://drawabox.com/lesson/1/2/pivots https://drawabox.com/lesson/1/ghostedlines

Ellipses: I can see more confidence in the ellipses, some of the ellipses are a little wobbly because you probably didn't draw through the ellipse 2-3 times before drawing the ellipse. In ellipses in planes I can see that some ellipses have distance between them, remember that in this exercise the ellipses do not have to have distance. In the same exercise some ellipses are floating as they do not touch the points of the planes https://drawabox.com/lesson/1/ellipsesinplanes. In funnels the line that cross all the ellipses should cut the ellipse into 2 symmetric halves.

Boxes: In the box exercises I can see that some of the boxes have repeated lines. In rough perspective the height lines of some boxes are not perpendicular to the horizon line. In rotated boxes I can see problems with the perspective of the boxes https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/368870697742630912/715669112222908466/zfr3o7xneog31.png .

I have seen that you have done all the exercises and that you have followed the steps correctly in each one. I can see that you have a good understanding of the purpose of each exercise, and that’s the most important thing. Everything else will improve if you keep practicing these exercises. I can mark this lesson as complete.

Good luck with the 250box challenge.
