You did a great job at lesson 1.

    General

Try to not redraw areas where you made mistakes. This results in drawing the viewers attention to mistakes. You can try to avoid mistakes by carefully planning your lines and then applying the ghosting method; if however you still make (unavoidable) mistakes refrain redrawing the line and just roll with it. Whether you try to adjust you construction or ignore a skewed line depends on the situation and your preference.

Another general thing I would reccomend is to use the printer paper only from one side for increased clarity. Drawing on printer paper with fine liners results in bleedthrough if using both sides of the page this impedes the clarity of your construction and hence makes it more difficult for yourself but especially others to assess your drawings.

    Lines

Your lines look great and confident throughout all the exercises. You do however have a slight tendency to correct your direction at the end of some lines which is apparent in your ghosted lines exercise and somewhat in your ghosted planes exercise. However you show a nice improvement over the whole lesson. Overall your prescision with your lines is really good. Starting with the ghosted planes exercise and this trend continues forward throughout the rest of the lesson your lines remain confident and precise but show a tendency to overshoot their target. This is what you should be working on next when tackeling the 250 box challange as well as during your warm ups.

    Ellipses

Your Ellipses look really good as well. Very confident and precise. Do however pay attention as to not draw through them more than 2 times. Over time during your warm ups your ellipses will become tighter and even more precise. Good job!

    Boxes

Your boxes look very good and you show a good understanding of constructing them using 1, 2 and 3 vanishing points. As mentioned above when constructing boxes your lines tend to overshoot the corners. This is what you should be workingn on next. Additionally please make sure to be precise and deliberate with your hatching. Your hatching lines show inconsistent spacing and sometimes over and sometimes undershoot the border of the surface. Try to pay more attention to your hatching lines and use the ghosting method if you choose to use hatching.

    Next Steps:

Continue to the 250 box challange! Congrats :)

In your warmups and future exercises pay attention to not overshoot your lines and exercise your hatching deliberately using the ghosting method for each line.

You generally did well with your exercises. Make sure to avoid drawing over your mistakes in the future, in order not to draw more attention to them. Also make sure to use a new sheet of paper for each new exercise so the bleedthrough does not hinder the evaluation.

Your superimposed lines exercise looks good. Nothing to add here.

Your ghosted lines look mostly good. However sometimes you tend to correct your stroke at the end resulting in a small wobble. Make sure to just execute your lines after having ghosted the motion. It also helps to set a fixed number of ghosted passes for all lines.

Your ghosted planes also look good.

Your table of ellipses look fine. As you perform this exercise during your warm ups make sure to very the degree of ellipses. They will also become more precise and tight over time.

The ellipses in planes exercise also looks good. Make sure to only draw through your ellipses twice and try to not feather out the ends too much. However your ellipses will get tighter and more precise as you perform warm ups for future sessions.

The funnels look good. When performing this in your warm ups try and adjust the degree of the ellipses to indicate the perspective shift as described by comfy in the text for this exercise.

The plotted perspective exercise looks structurally sound. All lines have been drawn using a straightedge. The vertical and horizontal lines look nicely planned out. Your hatching however is somewhat sloppy: it does not consistently reach the edges of the box, the lines are wobbly and inconsistently spaced. If you do apply hatching please make sure to do so with intent and precision.

Your rotated boxes exercise looks very good for a first try! When performing this in your warm ups try and make the plane changes even across the whole structure. Good job.

Your organic perspective exercise looks good as well. Some boxes have inconsistent convergence but you will be able to address this in the upcoming 250 box exercise. And again as indicated above if you choose to perform hatching on your boxes to so with intention and care to detail.

    Keep at it!

    Next Steps:

Continue to the 250 box challenge.

Continue to perform these exercises in your warm ups.

Looks all to be done very thoroughly. Continue to the 250 box challange! :)

Superimposed lines: your superimposed lines look good and confident. No issues here.

Ghosted lines: these look nice as well. You sometimes over or undershoot. This will resolve over time. Make sure to always execute your lines with confidence to avoid the occasional wobble.

Ghosted planes: look good. Make sure to not introduce too much of a bow especially in your longer lines. This will also resolve itself with time.

Tables of ellipses: You executed your ellipses with the necessary precision and drw through each of them. WIth time your ellipses will get tighter.

Ellipses in in planes: Again nicely done. no issues here. Ellipses will get tighter over time.

Funnels: Very good. Your ellipses will get even more precise with you executing them in your warm ups.

Plotted perspective: Some of the lines are not vertical as they should be. Make sure not to introduce convergence of the verticals in 2 point perspective.

Rough perspective: Nicely done. When repeating this exercise within your warm ups make sure to first carefully plan each box and then execute confidently to avoid wobbly lines.

Rotated Boxes: This looks good. Make sure to further alter the VPs for the outer most boxes. Consider the convergencies of all surrounding boxes and then approximate convergencies for the next box. You will have opportunity to correct this in wour warm ups.

Organic perspective: looks good as well. some of your convergencies are off but this should be an easy fix as soon as you start the 250 box challange. however do not draw over your mistakes for that makes them even more apparent.

In General please make sure to thoroughly read all of the material provided by drawabox. It seems like several times you misunderstood or did not completely read the instructions. Do not draw over your mistakes, that makes them only more obvious to the viewer. Please for future exercises use plain printer paper instead of the ruled one you have used in your submission.

in the superimposed lines exercise to me it is unclear whether you actually went over every line 8 times. This is also due to you using a at times unsharpened pencil. Your lines show fraying on both sides which indicates that you did not take enough time to precisely choose your starting point. I would suggest you redo one page of superimposed lines with fine liner such as you used in the later exercises. Focus on superimposing each line 8 times. Also focus on lines rather than curves or circles. Furthermore pay attention to your starting point.

Your ghosted lines look good. You seem to execute them confidently without over or undershooting. No wobbeling either. Good job.

Your ghosted planes look very good as well. Expecially no overshooting or undershooting. Lines are straight without wobble. With the lines crossing each plane i take issue insofar as they are nearly perfect. If you did those with a ruler please, again thoroghly read the instructions. If you have done those freehand. Good for you nice work!

Your ellipses in planes exercise look ok. Your ellipses sometimes wobble a bit so keep in mind to execute them confidently and quickly, furthermore sometimes it seems like you have not drawn trough them exactly twice. The spacing within the planes sometimes leads to distorted ellipses instead of an adjustment of the axis of the ellipse. However these are things you can adress as you perform this exercise as warmup.

Your tables of ellipses look ok. Again sometimes your ellipses lack roundness and warp such as on page 2 of this exercise in the upper left corner. Again make sure to draw through your ellipses exactly two times. You will perform this exercise in the future with your warmups, but please again fill out one page of the tables of ellipses exercise. Take care to draw through your ellipses and keep them round. Do not worry if your lines do not 100% overlap they will get tighter with time and practise.

Your funnels exercise looks good. Whenever you perform this exercise as your warmup please make sure to draw through your ellipses twice. Also you could make your funnels a bit bigger in order to make sure you can engage your whole arm including your shoulder.

Your Two point perspective exervise could have taken some more toroughness. You should perform this exervise with a ruler or a straightedge. And trace all edges of the box to the vanishing points without changing the color. Also when doing this exercise take your time to visualize prepare and ececute each line toroughly. Despite being allowed a ruler your lines are sometimes wobbly. Furthermore if you use hatching do so with care and keep in mind which side of which box is actually facing the viewer. Execute your hatching accordingly and with intent. Here sometimes you hateched multiple sides of some boxes. and also sides of boxes that would be covered by other boxes. Keep this in mind. You will be able to adress this when performing this exervise as your warmups.

Your rough perspective exervise seems to have been performed with a ruler. This should have been done free hand. The lines tracing towards the vanishing points shoudl have been performed after the fact in another color to evaluate your ability to estimate whether a line points to a vanishing point. You traced all your lines with a ruler directly at the vanishing point on both pages of this exercise. Please do the whole exercise again and make sure to read the instructions and watch the videos in full.

In the following you submitted pages with exervises that you have not been instructed to do. I will disregard them and again urge you to keep in mind to fully take in all of the instructions.

Your Rotated boxes exerise looks good. However you again did not perform the exercise as intended. Also your outer ring of boxes seems to be off in rotation (while also not being part of the instructions). Make sure that the convergences of the lines change coherently as compared to the previous row of boxes. You will be able to adress this as part of your warmups.

Your organic perspective exervise looks good. While your convergencies are sometimes of you will have plenty of time to practice this during the 250 box challange.

So please perform the assigned revisions and READ THE INSTRUCTIONS thoroughly for each exercise.

    Next Steps:

    One Page of superimposed lines

One Page of superimposed planes if done with ruler

One Page of Tables of ellipses

    Two pages of Rough perspective.

When finished, reply to this critique with your revisions.

Since a lot of our students want to break into working with digital painting however, I thought this course in particular would be a great start to get into the weeds with how to navigate the confusing world of layers, brushes, and more.

This course highlights programs across the full spectrum of options, ranging from the current industry standard Adobe Photoshop, to the Free-and-Open-Source darling Krita, as well as the mobile favourite, Procreate.
