Hello, I'll be critiquing your work.

    Lines

Your superimposed lines are off to a great start, as you have drawn them from a clear point and confidently. There is the expected fraying at the ends, but this usually disappears once you've practiced more.

Ghosted planes and ghosted lines are nice and confident. I do notice a bit of arching in some of your ghosted lines, so make sure to give them a consistent trajectory even if they are going to miss the ending point. Overall, good job.

    Ellipses

Tables of ellipses are looking very tidy rather than rushed, and it is also good to see that you are keeping your ellipses symmetrical and well rounded out on the ends.

Ellipses in planes are turning out well, but there are some that flow out of the boundaries. This isn't much to worry about, as you will improve with some practice.

Your funnels exercise is better in terms of keeping the ellipses within the boundaries. I like to see that you kept their shapes symmetrical and rounded, just like in your other ellipse exercises. There are also a few misalignments on the minor axes, but overall, this looks good.

    Boxes

Rough perspective is good, and I can see that most of your lines were drawn confidently. There are a few wobbly lines, so make sure to work on that a bit.

Your rotated boxes exercise looks very confidently drawn, and I see that you kept in mind the consistency of the gaps between the boxes as well as the box rotations.

Lastly, your organic perspective is turning out well, and you have made good attempts at the perspective of the boxes. I do recommend that you try using lineweight in the areas that overlap.

Alrighty, everything looks good and you should be able to move onto the next lesson. Make sure to use this lesson in your warmups!

Hello, I'll be critiquing your work

    Lines

Your superimposed lines are off to a great start, as you have drawn them confidently and from a clear point, keeping wavering to one side. Fraying usually disappears with more practice.

Ghosted lines and planes are both turning out well, so I don't have much critique to offer

    Ellipses

Moving on to tables of ellipses, you are keeping them mostly tidy and confidently drawn, but I do have a few issues I want to mention. In regards to tidiness, some of your ellipses are a bit spaced out and should be drawn closer to each other. Your ellipses are also turning out uneven in some areas, so it's important that you keep them symmetrical and well rounded out on both ends.

Ellipses in planes are turning out well, but like I said above, your ellipses should be symmetrical and well-rounded.

You do not have to worry about making the ellipse touch all contact points of the plane, but rather focus on the width of the ellipse and which position it is in.

Next, with your funnel exercise, it seems that they are turning out a lot more tidy and very symmetrical. There are, of course, some mistakes with the alignment of the ellipses to the minor axis, but overall these have improved.

    Boxes

On the rough perspective, your linework is turning out nice and confident. The estimations for the vanishing points are a bit off but will improve with practice. Also, I believe that you are only supposed to extend the line correction to the horizon line and not further. I only say this because it will make it look less cluttered, but it is not something to worry about entirely.

Rotated boxes are turning out well, as it looks like you are keeping the gaps narrow and consistent along with thinking about the rotation of the boxes.

Lastly, organic perspective is confident in most areas, and I notice that you are making good attempts at the perspective of the boxes, but any issues here will be addressed in the 250 Box Challenge. I also recommend adding some lineweight over the overlapping areas.

Alrighty I believe you should be able to move on to the next lesson. Good job and make sure to practice all of this in your warmups!

Hello, I'll be critiquing your work

    Lines

Starting with your superimposed lines, there's something I'd like to point out. Your lines are looking a bit wobbly and are arching as they reach further out. The best way to avoid this is by using the shoulder pivot to draw, which is definitely more helpful for longer lines. One thing I do notice is that you are starting from a clear point every time you draw, which is a good thing.

Ghosted lines are turning out great, and it seems like you have drawn them with more confidence. Some of your lines do overextend or miss the goal, but in this case, confidence is prioritized over accuracy. I have no doubt that this will improve.

Ghosted planes are no different from ghosted lines, and I notice that you have committed to your lines nicely here. There is some room to improve, but overall, a good job.

    Ellipses

Your table of ellipses is turning out very well, as you have kept them tidy rather than rushed, along with keeping in mind the angle/degree of them. You also did nicely at keeping their shapes rather symmetrical. Good job.

Ellipses in planes are turning out well, but make sure to keep them symmetrical too.

Your funnel exercise is looking good, and I like to see that you kept their degree shifts and symmetry in mind. Some things you can improve are the alignments to the axes and the closeness of the shapes.

    Boxes

On the rough perspective, your lines look rather confident, but I do see a few of them repeat. As long as you don't continue this in the future, it should be nothing to worry about. Along with that, your estimations of the vanishing point are a bit off but should improve given more practice.

Rotated boxes are looking confidently drawn, and the box rotations are looking decent. A few of your lines are overextending, so be careful with that. Otherwise, great job.

Lastly, your organic perspective is coming along and also looking confident. There are a few issues with their perspectives, but this will be covered in the 250 Box Challenge.

Alrighty, as long as you continue to practice this lesson's work in your warmups, I believe you should move onto the next lesson -- And please ask questions if you have any!

Hello, I'll be critiquing your work

    Lines

Your superimposed lines are off to a great start, as you started from a clear point and kept the wavering to one side. I do see in some areas that your linework becomes a bit wobbly or starts to arch. Confidence in your lines should be prioritized over accuracy. With some practice, this should definitely improve.

Ghosted lines and planes look good, and I like to see that your linework looks a lot more confident. Overall, good job.

    Ellipses

Your tables of ellipses are rather tidy and confident. One thing to keep in mind is that the ellipses should be symmetrical and rounded out on each end.

Ellipses in planes are turning out well, but I have something to point out. The ellipses should be symmetrical in the planes, and you can only change the width and what position the ellipse is going to be in. Don't worry about aligning them with the center of the plane or focusing on making them touch all of the contact points.

Your funnel exercise is looking nice and more symmetrical. One thing you seem to be having trouble with is aligning them with the axis that is supposed to split them in half. This is nothing to worry about as long as you practice more.

    Boxes

On your rough perspective, your linework looks confident, but remember not to repeat lines. This only reinforces the mistake you made, which wouldn't have been an issue to begin with. Also, your estimations of the vanishing points are a bit off, but this should all improve with some practice.

Rotated boxes are turning out fine, and if you need to, give yourself some more room to draw. Other than that, it seems like you're on the right track.

Lastly, your organic perspective has a few issues. As I pointed out earlier, you should not be repeating your lines. The only case when this is not true is when you are adding lineweight in the correct areas where the boxes are overlapping each other. Lineweight should also be added with one extra confident line, no more than that.

Alrighty, as long as you keep in mind everything I said above, I believe that you can move on. Make sure to use these in your warmup routine and good luck on later lessons!

Hello, I will be critiquing your Lesson 1 work

    Lines

To begin with, your superimposed lines are starting off great. It's a good thing that you are starting off from a defined point and keeping the wavering at one end. I do see that your lines are arching a bit, so keep in mind that you must use your shoulder while doing linework. With more practice, all of this should improve.

Moving onto ghosted lines, I can see that you drew these with a great deal of confidence. One thing I want to point out is that some of your lines are overreaching the point, but this should improve given some time and practice.

Also, if you do end up missing the endpoint, make sure not to redraw the line more than once or try to "fix" anything.

For the ghosted planes, these rules also apply. I notice in some areas that you may have tried to fix and redraw lines if you made a mistake. Make sure to commit to your lines even if they don't meet the goal.

    Ellipses

Your tables of Ellipses are looking great, as you made them relatively symmetrical and tidy. I do have something to point out, however. It is required that you draw through your ellipses only 2-3 times, preferably 2. Try not to go over this limit; otherwise, good job.

Next is your funnel exercise. I notice that you also drew through some of your ellipses more than what is required, so keep what I said above in mind. I also see that you are having a bit of trouble aligning your ellipses with the axis and keeping them tidy inside the funnel. This is something that you should improve on with warmups.

For the ellipses in planes, make sure to keep the shapes symmetrical.

    Boxes

From your rough perspective, the linework is relatively confident in some areas. However, I see that you are repeating lines more than once and extending lines that did not meet their goal. This is something that you want to avoid since accuracy is not prioritized in these lessons. Your focus should be on correctly ghosting and executing your lines.

For your rotated boxes, I am seeing the same issues as well. Repeating lines are not allowed unless you are trying to add lineweight, which should be done with only one other ghosted line, not multiple.

Organic perspective adheres to all the rules I stated above, and with more practice, these should also improve.

Make sure to use these in your warmups and good luck with future lessons!

    First of all, great work!

I can defintely see the improvement in these arrows and I believe that you are understanding the concept very well now. I do see that some of the sides of the arrows are overshooting a bit, but it's good to see that you are using the ghosting method for them. Overall, great job

And with more practice, you could go back and try the first method again as shown in the lessons. The one that I showed you in my replies maps out the sides first so that the bottom and top lines are essentially parallel. You can still achieve this by mapping out the top and then the bottom lines first like in the lesson. I was just trying to show an approach I saw from someone else that made simpler to understand.

Once again, good job on your work. I will mark this as complete!

Hello! Thank you for taking the time to review my challenge and giving me some pointers. I will definitely apply this advice while I'm practicing.

It's also more than that - it's a hand-picked recommendation of something I've used myself. If you're interested, here is a full list.
Ellipse Master Template

Ellipse Master Template

This recommendation is really just for those of you who've reached lesson 6 and onwards.

I haven't found the actual brand you buy to matter much, so you may want to shop around. This one is a "master" template, which will give you a broad range of ellipse degrees and sizes (this one ranges between 0.25 inches and 1.5 inches), and is a good place to start. You may end up finding that this range limits the kinds of ellipses you draw, forcing you to work within those bounds, but it may still be worth it as full sets of ellipse guides can run you quite a bit more, simply due to the sizes and degrees that need to be covered.

No matter which brand of ellipse guide you decide to pick up, make sure they have little markings for the minor axes.
