    Thanks for the review.

Solid review man. However it is called "ellipses in planes" not "ghosted ellipses"

Hi. I am checking your review so I can give you the 2nd agree and your badge but I would like to add some stuff first.

Your funnels and ghosted planes are too small. Just keep this in mind for the warm ups.

Your rough perspectives are extended incorrectly. The red lines are drawn directly from corners of the box to the desired vanishing point. They should follow the edges of the box to show the actual vanishing point(vp) of the box so that you can compare the actual vp with the desired vp.

    Check this out:

I'm afraid I must ask you to redo this exercise to make sure you understand it correctly. We don't want you repeating the mistake in your 250 boxes.

    Next Steps:

    1 page of rough perspective

When finished, reply to this critique with your revisions.

Your homework is no longer available, which means I can't check it out to agree with your review or add anything if needed.

Solid submission and solid review. However I would like to add :

Ellipses should be drawn through 2 or 3 times. Some are drawn more.

Never correct your lines. When you make a mistake when drawing your boxes (and you will make a lot) let it stay instead of redrawing the line.

    Next Steps:

Good luck in your 250 boxes

Solid submission and solid review but I want to add that your rotated boxes are missing the corner boxes. You should complete the exercise before moving on. Don't worry about ruining the paper, the point of the exercise is to learn not to look pretty.

    Next Steps:

Complete the rotated box exercises by adding the missing 4 corner boxes

When finished, reply to this critique with your revisions.

Some ellipses are too big for the planes but it's not a big deal. The ellipses themselves are now way better.

It's great that you aren't overly concerned with accuracy and are instead focused on getting smooth ellipse shapes. Although accuracy is our end goal it can't really be forced and tends to come with mileage and consistent practice more than anything else.

I wish you a good luck on your 250 boxes challenge.

    Next Steps:

Start the 250 box challenge. Don't forget to do warm ups of lesson 1 exercises.

Hi. I want to do a second review to cover everything.

    Superimposed Lines.

I see no wobbling, nor fraying on 2 sides. As you practice the fraying on the end will reduce.

    Ghosted lines.

Good job on this one. No wobbling or arcing. Occasional missing the mark (while can be frustrating) is acceptable. I suggest you do warm ups on this to avoid some frustration in the later lessons.

    Ghosted planes.

While they mostly look good, some of the lines start from nowhere and there is an increase in your lines that fall short. This suggests you started to rush things, which is common due to quantity of the work. Take as much as time you need.

    Table of ellipses.

Ellipses are drawn smoothly and confidently. Good job!.

The ideal is to draw the ellipses in 2 passes, 3 passes is also acceptable, however I see that some ellipses are drawn more. As you practice the gaps between the passes of the ellipses will shrink.

    Ellipses in planes

Each pass of the ellipses are so different It seems to me that you are thinking as you draw. Take your time, ghost the ellipses as many times as you need until you are confident in your ellipse. Remember that even ellipses are more important than touching all the sides.

    Funnels

Ellipses are good, good job. During warm ups try to get the degree of your ellipses to increase as you move outwards from the center - keeping the middle one at a low degree (very narrow), and towards the outside, much more circular. This was optional so it's not a problem that you didn't do it here. (I suggest always doing the optional stuff if you aren't already struggling with the non optional part)

    Plotted perspective.

Not much to say, all according to the rules. Good job.

    Rough perspectives

Your second attempt at doing it looks good.

    Rotated boxes

You did good when drawing it big. Drawing big really helps when dealing with complex spatial problems. You also did a good job drawing through your boxes.

However you should have kept the gaps between the boxes narrower, especially the ones towards the corners. Keeping the gaps narrow and consistent really helps with inferring information about neighboring boxes rotation and proportion.

The initial axes should be longer. Your axes can fit inside the middle box. https://drawabox.com/lesson/1/21/step3

Adding hatching is optional but if you want to add it you need to treat it like any other line you would draw for these lessons and plan it, ghost it, and draw with confidence.

This is a very hard exercise and the mistakes are expected. Just keep these in mind the next time you tackle this

    Organic perspective

Your foreshortening is too dramatic. In this exercise, you should employ a shallower foreshortening, meaning the vanishing point should be farther.

Some box's parallel edges are diverging as they are moving away from the viewer instead of converging. Take your time to ponder on where the vanishing point should be before drawing each line. You will have plenty of time to worry about this in the 250 box challenge.

Overall this was a really solid submission. You are almost ready to tackle the 250 box challenge but let's just fix that ellipses in planes.

    Next Steps:

1 page of ellipses in planes

When finished, reply to this critique with your revisions.

Thank you for the review. I did the assignments as requested. I did my best to prevent wobbling.

Rapid Viz

Rapid Viz

Rapid Viz is a book after mine own heart, and exists very much in the same spirit of the concepts that inspired Drawabox. It's all about getting your ideas down on the page, doing so quickly and clearly, so as to communicate them to others. These skills are not only critical in design, but also in the myriad of technical and STEM fields that can really benefit from having someone who can facilitate getting one person's idea across to another.

Where Drawabox focuses on developing underlying spatial thinking skills to help facilitate that kind of communication, Rapid Viz's quick and dirty approach can help students loosen up and really move past the irrelevant matters of being "perfect" or "correct", and focus instead on getting your ideas from your brain, onto the page, and into someone else's brain as efficiently as possible.
