Yeah I'll take it little by little and will try to be more patient with myself. Thank you.
Yeah I'll take it little by little and will try to be more patient with myself. Thank you.
I honestly think taking too long of a break was the biggest cause of this issue even if it was necessary at the time, it was hard jumping back into my studies after, I'm still struggling now but it's gotten better. Yeah I've been neglecting making art for fun so I've been trying to start every session just making what I want and it has helped a bit. I'll keep in mind what you have said. Thank you for the advice.
Yeah you're right, thank you for the advice, I'm just going to take my time, try not to overthink it and power through.
Yeah I think I'm just being too hard on myself and getting in my own head, thank you for this advice I'll continue at my own pace.
I highly recommend you take your time and don't rush even if it feels like the box is taking too long you'll only cheat yourself on a learning experiences, experiment on differnt was to approch drawing it and see what works best for you, I had so many techniques I tried during the process by the end I was pretty comfortable with it, you'll gain speed with time.
(Notes for myself to keep in mind)
- Your ellipses in funnels are having some slight issues with tilting off the minor axis. https://drawabox.com/lesson/1/14/notaligned This is something you should always start considering when drawing your ellipses. One thing you could have done with these is start with a narrower degree ellipse in the center and then widen the degrees of the ellipses as they move outwards in the funnel. Please check the example here. https://drawabox.com/lesson/1/14/step3 This helps with practicing different degrees of ellipses.
There's still room for improvement so keep practicing your ellipses during your warmups.
Drawing big helps when dealing with complex spatial problems.
Your rotations were pretty slight overall for the rotated boxes exercise, The more you draw and develop your spatial thinking ability the easier these rotations are to handle.
Come back to this exercise after a few lessons to see how much your spatial thinking ability has improved. https://drawabox.com/lesson/1/rotatedboxes
For rough perspective exercises keep extending the lines back on your boxes to check your work. Your perspective estimations were quite off but that will become more intuitive with practice.
- One thing that can help you a bit when doing a one point perspective exercise like this is to realize that all of your horizontal lines should be parallel to the horizon line and all of your verticals should be perpendicular(straight up and down in this case) to the horizon line. This will help you avoid some of the slanting lines you have in your constructions.
Thank you Rob, I really appreciate these critiques and will keep them in mind as I continue forward.
Here we're getting into the subjective - Gerald Brom is one of my favourite artists (and a pretty fantastic novelist!). That said, if I recommended art books just for the beautiful images contained therein, my list of recommendations would be miles long.
The reason this book is close to my heart is because of its introduction, where Brom goes explains in detail just how he went from being an army brat to one of the most highly respected dark fantasy artists in the world today. I believe that one's work is flavoured by their life's experiences, and discovering the roots from which other artists hail can help give one perspective on their own beginnings, and perhaps their eventual destination as well.
