Hi KADASKYYY, congrats on completing Lesson 1! My name is Shaydy and I will be reviewing your work.

    Superimposed Lines

Overall things look pretty good. I do see some wobbling so remember that confidence is more important than accuracy at this point. We would rather see a confident straight line that doesn't meet it's mark than one that does but wobbles the whole way.

I do see a good amount of fraying on both sides, so try to ensure you are lining your starting point up each and every time.

    Ghosted Lines & Planes

Again, I see some wobbling. Its important not to worry too much about connecting the points, the goal at this stage is confidence over accuracy.

    Tables of Ellipses

Nice work with your tables of ellipses, you are drawing through your ellipses two full times and everything fits nice and snug.

    Ellipses in Planes

You have drawn through your ellipses, and I can see you have strived to have them touch all four corners of each plane. Nice!

    Funnels

Good job aligning your ellipses to the central minor axis line. Remember to continue to draw through your ellipses here and ensure they are touching both sides of the funnel.

    Plotted Perspective

Your verticals are for the most part perpendicular to the horizon and you correctly plotted your horizontal edges back to the vanishing points, nice job here.

For the hatching, make sure to continue using the ghosting method and ensure your each line extends to both edges.

    Rough Perspective

I see some more wobbling here, but everything else looks good.

    Rotated Boxes

You did a good job of following the core steps of this exercise, you kept the gaps between your boxes tight and consistent which is great. It looks like you reached a point where you couldn't quite complete it, that's ok!

    Organic Perspective

Nice job with this one. Again for the hatching, make sure each line extends to both edges.

Overall, you did a good job executing the exercises. I feel like you understood what was asked of you and have a good enough grasp of the material to continue using it for your future warm-ups. When using Lesson 1 material during your warm-ups, try to focus on drawing confident lines.

I am marking this assignment complete.

    Next Steps:

Good luck on the 250 box challenge!

Remember to use lesson 1 material in your warm-ups moving forward.

Hi GHOSTJACKO_O congrats on finishing Lesson 1! I'm Shaydy and I'll be reviewing your work.

Your Superimposed Lines look great, I can see you were careful to line up your pen at the start and your lines appear very confident.

Same for your Ghosted Lines and Ghosted Planes. Things are looking really good, nice accuracy as well!

    Your ellipses look great.

For the Funnels exercise, your ellipses should be drawn more closely together so that they are touching each other. Also pay close attention to ensure they are aligned to the central axis.

Your Plotted Perspective looks good, nice hatching.

Rough perspective looks pretty good. I see some fraying here so make sure you are still taking your time and using the Ghosting Method when drawing your lines.

The Organic Perspective looks good, and you made a really good effort with the rotated boxes exercise. I can see you had some trouble rotating your boxes steeply enough, but overall you've done a nice job of the notably more difficult assignment in this lesson.

I can see you've grasped the concepts of lesson 1 and are ready to put them into practice during your warm-ups. I am marking this submission complete.

    Next Steps:

Good work and good luck on the 250 box challenge!

It's recommended to use exercises learned in lesson 1 as warm-ups for the 250 box challenge and lesson 2.

First off, congratulations on finishing lesson 1! I'm Shaydy and I'll be handling your critique.

For the Superimposed Lines exercise, your lines are well executed overall. I see a little wobbling, but that's ok! Remember, confident strokes are more important than accurate ones at this point. Be careful to take your time when lining up each line at the starting point.

Your Ghosted Lines look really good. For more of a challenge, try some that extend the length of the page when you're doing warm-ups in the future.

Your ghosted planes look great, your linework appears very confident. Wonderful job!

Your ellipses look nice and neat, I can see you've gone around each one twice as instructed, nice job!

Your Ellipses in Planes look good and confident also. There are a few instances where the ellipse doesn't reach all sides of the plane, but that's ok! When you work on 250 boxes and lesson 2, you can incorporate this exercise into your warm-ups.

Funnels look good, your ellipses are aligned to the central axis and for most part are touching both sides of the funnels.

Plotted perspective, rough perspective and rotated boxes all look good, be careful to ensure your hatch lines extend to both edges.

For the Organic Perspective exercise, be careful to take your time executing each line individually, as there seems to be a good amount of instances where you've gone over a line a few times. Otherwise, things are looking good here too!

Overall I can see you've understood the exercises and followed the instructions carefully. You've done a really good job!

I am marking this submission complete.

    Next Steps:

Good work and good luck on the 250 box challenge!

Hi 0921065, congrats on finishing Lesson One.

Your Superimposed Lines look great, I can see you were careful to line up your pen at the start and your lines appear confident with very little wobbling or arcing. In the future (maybe for your warm-ups), try doing some lines the full length of the page in landscape orientation for even more of a challenge. It looks like on your second page you maybe only went over each line 4 times, so be sure to be superimposing your lines 8 times as stipulated in the homework instructions.

Ghosted lines look excellent, nice accuracy! Again, for more of a challenge during your warm-ups, you can try doing some that run the full length of the page.

    Ghosted planes look good.

For your Ellipses try filling all the spaces, using smaller ellipses in the corners. No need to go back and do this though. Ellipses in planes look great, you did a good job of centering the ellipses and getting them to touch all four edges of the plane.

For the Funnels exercise, your ellipses are aligned to the central axis and are touching both sides of the funnels, so looking good here too.

For the Plotted Perspective exercise, the hatch lines should extend all the way to the edges, also it may be beneficial for readability to hatch the same face on each box in the future. Otherwise things look good. I am unsure if a different colour pen is permitted here, so that may be a question to ask. Unless you plan on going the official critique route, this probably won't cause you any issues.

Really nice work on the Rough Perspective. You missed the first few steps of the Rotated Boxes exercise, but the outcome looks good being the notably more difficult exercise of the lesson. Be careful next time to follow each step as explained in the videos and text, or it may be cause for future revisions.

The Organic Perspective looks pretty good too, your lines look very confident. Make sure you're using the ghosting method for the hatching and that each line reaches both corners, otherwise it looks great! Note that you were supposed to do two pages of organic perspective.

Please pay close attention to the instructions and amount of pages necessary for each exercise in the future. I can see that you've understood the exercises well enough so I wont be assigning revisions today but again, revisions may be assigned in the future for missed steps or pages. That being said, review your work carefully before submitting it and use the checklist provided on the submission form to ensure your homework meets all the requirements.

Really good work, and good luck on the 250 box challenge!

Same for your Ghosted Lines. Things are looking really good, nice accuracy as well!

Nothing but positive things to say about your Ghosted Planes and Ellipses. Well done.

For the Funnels, note that you were permitted to use something round to produce the arcs, but I can see you understood the exercise. Your ellipses are aligned to the central axis and are touching the sides of the funnels, so all good here too.

For the Plotted Perspective exercise, the hatch lines should extend all the way to the edges, also it may be beneficial for readability to hatch the same face on each box in the future. Otherwise things look good.

Really nice work on the Rotated Boxes ! :)

the Organic Perspective looks pretty good too, a few wobbly lines and corners that don't quite meet. No big issues here. Again, make sure you're using the ghosting method for the hatching and that each line reaches both edges.

Really good work, and good luck on the 250 box challenge!

Thank you so much for the prompt and detailed response!

I try to read the lessons and then watch all the videos, but sometimes I do miss things in practice (such as extending my red lines beyond the horizon line in rough perspective - oop!) thanks kindly for pointing it out.

For the hatching, yeah I wondered if that was going to be an issue haha. I definitely switched between free-handing and trying to ghost in some of them. In the future I will commit to using the ghosting method the whole way through.

I do consciously heed the advice not to grind, and of course I will remember to keep that in mind throughout the entirety of this course. In terms of the rotated boxes more specifically, I just ended up really enjoying the exercise! Despite that, I will try harder not to repeat things more than necessary in the future :)

    Thanks again :).

PureRef

This is another one of those things that aren't sold through Amazon, so I don't get a commission on it - but it's just too good to leave out. PureRef is a fantastic piece of software that is both Windows and Mac compatible. It's used for collecting reference and compiling them into a moodboard. You can move them around freely, have them automatically arranged, zoom in/out and even scale/flip/rotate images as you please. If needed, you can also add little text notes.

When starting on a project, I'll often open it up and start dragging reference images off the internet onto the board. When I'm done, I'll save out a '.pur' file, which embeds all the images. They can get pretty big, but are way more convenient than hauling around folders full of separate images.

Did I mention you can get it for free? The developer allows you to pay whatever amount you want for it. They recommend $5, but they'll allow you to take it for nothing. Really though, with software this versatile and polished, you really should throw them a few bucks if you pick it up. It's more than worth it.
