Could be please elaborate on the bad habits so that I am clear on what they are exactly?

Thank you for your feedback. I am using a fineliner. It's a fineliner marker with a different colors and it's 0.4mm. I know it's a fineliner because of the pen-tip is similar to what to the pen-tip of the fineliners your selling on drawabox. Currently that is what I have access to. I am not using a ballpoint pen. So unless your saying that between Lesson 2 and 5 you're supposed to use a specific fineliner that is .5mm of which the difference between .4 and .5mm isn't that big

Thanks Uncomfortable. I just realized that when it comes to constructing the second identical curve all the problems that have been mentioned come up because I think about making consistent spaces, making sure the lines overlap and then at the same time trying to take into account perspective which then leads to the inconsistent spaces, bulging e.t.c which affect the 3d feel of the arrows. So my question is there another way other than the instructions provided to approach drawing the second curve or is matter of getting that mileage through practice?

    Hi Tofu,

Thanks for the crtique. I just wanted some clarification on the organic arrows exercise.. So did you mean the arrows that I had drawn as they move closer to the viewer become narrow/bulge?

Could you also elaborate on the foreshortening of the arrows aspect because that isn't very clear to me. Foreshortening makes sense when it comes to the boxes but for arrows not so much

Congrats on completing lesson 1. Lets start with the super imposed lines. They're maintaining a consistent trajectory and you attempted some curly ones which is a bonus. Solid attempt. Moving on to the ghosted lines exercise, a good attempt. I like that you kept the points small so that the line basically swallows them up so to speak which is essentially the point of the exercise, a bit of overshooting but that's okay that will improve over time. Solid attempt on the table of ellipses, however I have seen a few ellipses that have gaps in between each other. This can be avoided by ghosting a little longer.

Good attempt on the ghosted planes with the ellipses. FIrst off the ghosted lines are well drawn, however some of the ellipses aren't touching all four sides of the plane again here spend a little longer ghosting so that you can achieve that.

Good work on the funnels exercise

Nice work on the plotted perspective. I like that the shading is consistent and not all over the place. As for rough perspective I would say is solid. However, a few lines lack confidence. Remember all your doing is draw a line from point A to point B. So if you can confident lines in the ghosted lines exercise then you can have confident ones here too. Great job on the rotated boxes, the boxes are actually rotating and the spaces in between are narrow and consistent and most importantly you saw the exercise through to the end. FInally the organic perspective is a solid attempt, I can see a few lines you aren't sure of and hence the urge to correct them. This can be handled by taking some time to ghost a little longer as I have mentioned above

    Next Steps:

You can move on the 250 boxes challenge. Good luck! Try ghosting a little longer than you usually do when attempting the challenge

    Hi,

Thanks for the feedback. I have began work on the boxes. I had a question if I am having trouble with inner lines not converging to the same vanishing point as the outer lines. What would I doing wrong in this scenario?

Congrats on completing lesson 1. Let's begin with the super imposed lines exercise. A solid attempt and you attempted curly lines as well which is a bonus. Good work on the ghosted lines exercise. I like that you kept the points small so the lines bascially swallow them up which is essentially the point. As for the ghosted planes and ellipses, there's a bit of overshooting in regards to the ghosted planes but that's fine that will improve the more you ghost as for the ellipses some of them feel like you rushed them because a couple of the eliipses are not covering there individual planes entirely. I think spending a little longer ghosting would be helpful.Moving on to the ellipse section, the ellipses in the table of ellipses exercise look solid: they’re rounded, and properly drawn through. Solid work on the funnels exercise, however try using a rule for the vertical and horizontal lines rather than free-hand because you need to be able to tell if the ellipses create equal halves as the line cuts through them.

Good work on the plotted perspective exercise, however I would suggest using a ruler for the shading bit is looks much smoother and consistent.

Moving on to the rough perspective exercise, I can see there is a lack of confidence in the lines. Most of them are not meeting there target. I understand that you're worried that you might overshoot but try your best to reach the target. Remember all your doing is drawing a line from point A to point B so if you can have confident lines in the ghosted exercise you can have confident lines here too and also the points don't have so bold.

Good work on the rotated boxes exercise. The boxes are actually rotating and the spaces between them are narrow and consistent.

Solid attempt on the organic perspective and as you noticed the lineweight isn't necessary. I can still a couple of lines not meeting there target and few are wobbly especially the ones further away from the viewer.

    Next Steps:

You can move on to the 250 boxes challenge. Good luck! Use this as an opportunity to work on ghosting a liitle longer to improve on the confidence in your lines

Congrats on completing lesson 1. Let's start with the super imposed lines exercise. This was a solid attempt. The lines managed to maintain a certain trajectory and you attempted some curly ones as well which is a bonus. Good work on the ghosted lines exercise. I like that you kept the points small so that the line can swallow them up whch is essential the point.

As for the ghosted planes with ellipses, first off the ghosted planes are good no sign of over shooting which is good and the ellipses are solid I can see an actually attempt for the ellipses to cover the entire plane. Good work the funnels exercise. However try use a ruler for the vertical and horizontal lines, some of the lines look like you did them free-hand. Remember the goal of the exercise is to make sure that the line cuts through the middle of each ellipses to make equal halves. That's where the ruler comes in

Good work on the plotted perspective. I like the consistency of the shading of one face of each box. As for the rough perspective exercise, I can tell that a number of lines lack confidence. Remember all your doing is drawing a line from point A to point B so if you can have confident lines in the ghosted lines exercise you can have confident lines here too. Great attempt on the rotated boxes exercise the boxes are maintaining consistent, narrow spaces and the boxes are actually rotating.

Solid attempt on the organic perspective. However, be careful with the lineweight. The bold lineweight isn't necessary for the big boxes as long as you can tell which boxes are further away and which boxes are closer to the viewer you have acheived the goal of the exercise.

Also there is an improvement in line confidence in the rotated boxes and organic exercises as compared to the rough perspective exercise.

    Next Steps:

You can move on to the 250 boxes challenge. Good luck!

The Science of Deciding What You Should Draw

The Science of Deciding What You Should Draw

Right from when students hit the 50% rule early on in Lesson 0, they ask the same question - "What am I supposed to draw?"

It's not magic. We're made to think that when someone just whips off interesting things to draw, that they're gifted in a way that we are not. The problem isn't that we don't have ideas - it's that the ideas we have are so vague, they feel like nothing at all. In this course, we're going to look at how we can explore, pursue, and develop those fuzzy notions into something more concrete.
