    Hi there, welcome to Drawabox!

    Superimposed lines

The aim of the exercise is to prioritize the straightness and confidence of the lines more than the accuracy (try increasing stroke speed)

    Ghosted lines

You seem more confident in the lines here but there’s still some wobble and arching in the lines, the lines tilted to the right are both accurate and confident so good job with that (Try to rotate the page as much as you want until you are comfortable)

    Ghosted planes

The lines look way better now! Great work

    Ellipses in planes

The ellipses are quite well made, some of the ellipses were undershooting on the first page, but it seems to be better on the second page.

    Table of Ellipses

There is quite a bit of overlapping, but the shape of the ellipses are pretty good overall

    Funnels

The funnels are done well, you did a good job aligning the ellipses to both axes.

    Plotted Perspective Boxes

    You followed the instructions correctly.

    Rough Perspective Boxes

The shape of the boxes are done well, don’t worry if all the lines don’t meet at the vanishing point since the lines of most boxes are meeting each other, this will be very useful in the 250 box challenge

    Rotated Boxes

You made one extra layer of boxes. Aside from that, you seem to understand the purpose of the exercise and made some clean-looking boxes.

    Organic boxes

Some of the boxes are repeating. but once you start the 250 box challenge you will get better.

I hope this was helpful, good luck on your journey and on the 250 box challenge!

    Next Steps:

Move onto the 250 box challenge

Don't forget to use the superimposed lines and ghosted lines exercise to warm up

    Welcome to draw a box!

    Superimposed lines

The lines are reaching the points accurately but the strokes are quite shaky, try to prioritize the straightness of the line over the accuracy because that will improve as you keep practicing. The lines can become shaky if your arm is too tense, try to rotate the page until you're comfortable and increase the stroke speed if it helps.

    Ghosted lines

    Same as superimposed lines.

Ghosted planes and Ellipses in planes

The ellipses are quite accurate but like the lines they too are wobbly.

    Table of Ellipses

Most ellipses are toughing the walls and they aren’t overlapping which is good.

    Funnels

The ellipses are aligned, but you seem to struggle with the ones on the end.

    Plotted Perspective Boxes

    You followed the instructions correctly.

    Rough Perspective Boxes

You are repeating lines quite a bit, and if the perspective is giving you trouble then don’t rush yourself, take a step back and think about how the lines will join the vanishing point, don’t worry too much about the shape of the box that will get better when you start working on the 250 box challenge.

    Rotated Boxes

It looks like you understand how the + part of the box works but you seem to be having trouble with the corners, Don’t worry if it looks off this exercise is difficult and you’ll get better once you learn more about perspective.

    Organic boxes

Some of the boxes are repeating. but again, once you start the 250 box challenge you will get better.

Before moving on to the 250 box challenge I’d like you to revise 1 page of superimposed lines to improve the wobble and 1 page of rough perspective since it looks a bit rushed. I hope this was helpful!

    Next Steps:

    1 page of Superimposed lines

1 page of Rough perspective boxes

    Hello and welcome to drawabox!

    Superimposed lines

Your lines have no fraying and are meeting at the two points accurately but the lines are wobbly, your lines will become more accurate as you keep practicing so prioritize the straightness of the lines (try to increase the stroke speed if it helps).

    Ghosted lines

Same as superimposed lines, but it looks a lot better on the second page.

    Ghosted planes

Seems like you are starting to get the hang of the lines at this point, slight arching but overall, they are great.

    Table of Ellipses

There is a lot of overlap on the first page but you got significantly better on the second one, the ellipses are nice and tight, some of them don’t quite touch the walls but there isn’t much overshooting when they do.

    Ellipses in planes

This exercise is done very well!

    Funnels

There is some overlap and some ellipses are loose but it’s fine overall.

    Plotted Perspective Boxes

    You understood the exercise well.

    Rough Perspective Boxes

You’re repeating some lines, once you put down a stroke don’t change it, overall, it looks like you mostly got the hang of it by the second page since only a couple of lines are too far from the vanishing point.

    Rotated Boxes

The first try was fine enough but despite being a hard exercise you did really well on your second try!

    Organic boxes

The boxes on the first page don’t seem to rotate much but you fixed that as well as the shape of the boxes on the second page

You are doing great so far, I hope this was helpful. Good luck on your journey and on the 250 box challenge!

    Next Steps:

Use the Superimposed lines and ghosted lines as a warmup before starting

Move on to the 250 box challenge

    Hello and welcome to drawabox!

    Superimposed lines

The lines aside from fraying seem to be arching a little (but that will be fixed with practice, the shorter lines are better but there is no wobbling in any of them which is great!

    Ghosted lines

It looks like you sacrificed the straightness of the lines for accuracy, accuracy can be fixed with practice so try to keep your strokes confident like in the superimposed lines exercise.

    Funnels

Most of the ellipses are aligned to the axis. but they are overlapping a little and some of them (mostly the ones at the end) don’t touch the funnel wall

    Rough Perspective Boxes

It’s great to see that the horizontal lines are parallel to the horizon, but you repeated some of the vertical lines (If you are having trouble drawing vertical lines then try rotating the page as much as necessary. Even if the lines don’t come out the way you wanted them to, treat them as if they are right, you’ll improve your accuracy in time.

    Rotated Boxes

This is a hard exercise so I won't say much about it. the boxes seem to be meeting back at the same vanishing point and some of them are too distant from each other.

    Organic boxes

The boxes are repeating so it doesn’t feel like it’s rotating alot. but once you start the 250 box challenge you will get better.

I couldn’t find the Ghosted Planes, Ellipses in planes, Table of Ellipses, or plotted perspective boxes on your album, did you upload them?

I hope this was helpful, you are doing a good job so far!

    Next Steps:

2 filled pages of the Ghosted Planes

2 filled pages of the Ellipses in Planes

2 filled pages of the Tables of Ellipses

1 filled page of the Plotted Perspective

When finished, reply to this critique with your revisions.

    Superimposed lines

The arcs and horizontal lines are better especially the shorter ones. The vertical lines are fraying quite a bit (try to rotate the page) and the lines seem to wobble at the end (but that will be fixed with practice).

    Ghosted lines

It seems like you are not confident in some of the tilted lines as there is some wobble, but most of them are are straight are quite accurate.

Ghosted planes and Ellipses in planes

The planes on the first page are made quite well, some of the tilted angles are overshooting a little, but it seems to be a little better on the second page.

    Table of Ellipses

Same as the ghosted planes, I see some overshooting and overlapping but it gets better on the second page.

    Funnels

The funnels are very well made, you did a good job aligning the ellipses to the axis and the shape is quite on point.

    Plotted Perspectice Boxes

You repeated a few lines, but overall followed the instructions correctly.

    Rough Perspective Boxes

You are repeating lines quite a bit, try using the horizon line as a reference to plot the boxes then ghost the lines until you are confident (Keep the width of the box parallel to the horizon line and the length of the box at a 90 degree angle). If you feel stuck then take a step back, relax your shoulder and once you draw a line don't change it.

    Rotated Boxes

This is a hard exercise so I won't say much about it. You will get a better once you start working on the 250 box challenge

    Organic boxes

Some of the boxes are repeating. but again, once you start the 250 box challenge you will get better.

I hope this was helpful, Good luck on your journey and on the 250 box challenge!

    Next Steps:

Use the Superimposed lines exercise and the Ghosted lines exercise to warm up before starting.

I agree, I would also suggest rotating the page and ghosting the lines until you are comfortable, try relaxing your shoulder a bit, maybe changing the speed of your strokes might help with the wobble. Good luck on your journey!

Sorry for the extremely late reply! thank you for the advice, I tried to keep it in mind. Here is the revision of rough perspective.

Staedtler Pigment Liners

Staedtler Pigment Liners

These are what I use when doing these exercises. They usually run somewhere in the middle of the price/quality range, and are often sold in sets of different line weights - remember that for the Drawabox lessons, we only really use the 0.5s, so try and find sets that sell only one size.

Alternatively, if at all possible, going to an art supply store and buying the pens in person is often better because they'll generally sell them individually and allow you to test them out before you buy (to weed out any duds).
