it doesn't matter, do what u feels right first , sometimes watching video help to better understanding, and sometimes reading is more helpful.

what is important is re-watching and re-reading until you get a good understanding of the concept.

    all the best

    hii

you have done a great work

but the solidity of the drawing is off and you have to take care of it in the construction phase

    Tricks:

    • make your self believe you have a 3d sphere or object drawn on the paper (the previous lessons help you to do so)

    • after establishing the big mass (the head thorax..) add the small masses (the segments of the insect) in relation to the big masses. The sausage exersice help you to achive this

    • add the cast shadows and texture once you are satisfied with the construction

construction is the soul of a drawing

    YES!!

when i started i was very bad at ghosting straight line . my shoulder felt a ton of pain practicing for a perfect straigt line

but then i realised i was thinking too much , let the muscle memory take over the action

i just target the initial and final point then swing my hand back and forth between these points while approaching into the page slowly vola!! a straight line is formed without my conscious

A slight S is way better than zig zag lines i suggest you to move on to next exercise

if you need more practice try charcol on a board it gives more freedom to practice drawing with shoulder

    first of all good effort

    • i could see some problems in line weight add line weight where we need to grab more attention instead of doing it everywhere

    • construct the forms on top in relation to the base forms we created initially

    • i think you are doing sketches with a marker try to get some fineliners it improve the quality of markmaking

    • thats it best wishes for lesson 5

    Next Steps:

draw some more insects if you can

    after revising lesson 4 notes

When finished, reply to this critique with your revisions.

The Science of Deciding What You Should Draw

The Science of Deciding What You Should Draw

Right from when students hit the 50% rule early on in Lesson 0, they ask the same question - "What am I supposed to draw?"

It's not magic. We're made to think that when someone just whips off interesting things to draw, that they're gifted in a way that we are not. The problem isn't that we don't have ideas - it's that the ideas we have are so vague, they feel like nothing at all. In this course, we're going to look at how we can explore, pursue, and develop those fuzzy notions into something more concrete.
