Hello, I'll be critiquing your lesson for today.

    Lines:

You have very slight wobble in your lines, this is natural and will get better with practice. Ghost as much as needed for you to execute a smooth confident line.

    Ellipses:

In your table, some ellipses are either not touching the edges of the table, or each other. Make sure they form tangents with neighbouring lines.

    Boxes:

Your organic perspectives are pretty sparse, try to fill it up more and have the change in perspective be more dramatic.

That's all, everything will come together with practice, so have fun!

    Next Steps:

Move onto the 250 box challenge!

Hello and congrats on finishing the 250 box challenge! I know how difficult the challenge can be so it's great that you had the perseverance to finish.

    Onto the critique:

Hatching: It's not a requirement to hatch one face of your boxes, but it is recommended. Try to hatch more in the future.

Convergences: A lot of your boxes have very steep convergences as opposed to shallow ones. It's good that your practicing different box orientations but only around 1/3 of your convergences should be that steep. Ideally most vanishing points should lie far away from the page. For what it's worth, a lot of your boxes, especially near the end , have near perfect convergences.

Lineweight: Lineweight should only be applied to the outline of the box, not to the initial Y shape.

That's all for now, I recommend practicing some more before moving on, keeping what I said in mind.

    Next Steps:

Do 4 more pages of boxes all with far off vanishing points/shallow convergences. Try to incorporate hatching if you can.

When finished, reply to this critique with your revisions.

    Lines:

In your ghosted lines and planes exercise, there is a slight bit of wobble in some of your lines. Take as much time as you need to ghost your lines and prioritize a smooth mark over an accurate mark.

    Ellipses:

Mostly alright, but in parts of the funnels exercise the minor axis doesn't cut through the midpoint of all the ellipses in each funnel, try to remember that the minor axis should bisect he ellipse and half each one.

    Boxes:

Some of the placements of the faces of your rotated boxes are a bit off, and in organic perspective lineweight should only be added to the parts that overlap, not the whole overlapping boxes.

Everything else is fine! Good luck with the next step!

    Next Steps:

Move onto the 250 box challenge.

    Lines:

Your lines seem to have a bit of wobble, and you seem to falter near the end and try to swerve and reach your second point. This is incorrect, try drawing a smooth confident line with your arm. Accuracy will come after you manage this.

    Ellipses:

In the table, the ellipses should be tangents to one another with no overlap, try working on this in the future. The ellipses in your planes and funnels seem hesitant and wobbly. Are you ghosting enough before putting them down or do you strugglewith using your arm as a pivot? Whichever reason, you should aim with a smooth curve much like the lines.

    Boxes:

Your rotated boxes all converge to the central vanishing point, instead of converging further along the horizon line. Don't be too disheartened by this as it's something that others struggle with. Other than that, there's the same issue with the wobbly lines which will come with practice.

Other than that it's all good.

    Next Steps:

Move onto the 250 box challenge! Good luck!

Thank you so much for the critique! I'll note everything you said and hopefully apply it during my warm-ups, and again, thank you.

    Lines:

    1) Some of the lines in your ghosted lines and planes exercises are pretty wobbly. Possible reasons could be that you are worrying more about accuracy or that you're struggling to use the shoulder. In any case remember that having a smooth confident line comes before hitting the marks.

    Ellipses:

    1) In the funnels exercise, some of the minor axes are off the line of symmetry of the ellipses, just make sure the minor axis goes through the centre line of the ellipse.

    Boxes:

    1) Same again, with the lines

    2) Try being more dramatic with the perspective in organic boxes.

    Next Steps:

    Move onto 250 boxes

    Lines:

    1) In both ghosted lines and ghosted planes, your lines sometimes have a bit of curvarture to them. This could be because you are struggling with using your shoulder to draw. Another reason could be that you're concerned about accuracy, in which case make sure to prioritize a clear smooth mark. That said as the majority of your lines are good, I think you will not have much trouble developing these skills.

    2) For some edges in planes and some in the ghosted lines, your lines are missing both points. Be sure to rest your pencil on the starting point for a second before you draw your line (provided that you have throroughly ghosted).

    Ellipses:

    1) Main thing I can notice is that you don't seem to be that confident in your ellipses. Take as long as you need to ghost so that you don't try to compensate for any inaccuracies in your second mark through. As stated above, prioritize confident, smooth marks.

    2) In ghosted planes and in your table, the ellipses either undershoot or overshoot the bounds by a wide margin. Try drawing tighter ellipses and putting more forethought into the ellipse. Also the ellipses in your table overlap quite often when ideally they would only form tangents to each other, just touching. As mentioned before, tighter ellipses, more ghosting and forethought would probably help.

    3) In funnels, the minor axis is supposed to cut through each ellipse into 2 symmetrical halves. Just keep this in mind when drawing not just the ellipses but also the funnel.

    Boxes:

    1) In rough perspective, your lines seem to have struggled a bit more, but this ok just try to ghost more. However some of the horizontal lines on the front facing plane of the boxes aren't parallel with the horizon line. Just try to rectify this in future attempts.

Other than that, it's all fine and up to standard

    Next Steps:

Now it's time to move onto the 250 box challenge. This will help in any problems you have with lines or boxes. Only suggestion is to do some ellipses exercises in any warm ups you do. Good luck and have fun!

This is very good! I really can't think of any feedback of than continue what you're doing. Your lines are clean and your ellipses are tight, and you seem to have a decent grasp on perspective. Any thing that might seem like a blind spit to you now will be worked upon in the challenges and lessons to come and in any warm ups you do.

    Next Steps:

The 250 boxes challenge is next and I think you should go for it. Have fun!

These are good, there's only really a few things to pick out

    1) The lines are mostly good, but some of them have a slight curve to them, this could be because you are having difficulty using the shoulder, a lack of ghosting enough or that you are trying to rectify your lines mid motion so that they hit both plotted points. Whatever it is remember that a smooth straight line comes before anything.

    2) In the funnels exercise some of the minor axises are way off the midline the ellipse. Keep in mind that a minor axis is also a line of symmetry.

    3) Boxes have a very similar problem to the lines and rotated boxes all seem to converge to the same vanishing point, instead of sliding further along.

Other than that it's all fine and don't worry it'll all come naturally with time

    Next Steps:

The next step is the 250 box challenge, which will help you develop what's been said here. Good luck!

    Ok step by step:

Lines: Your lines are prone to wobbling a lot, try planning out your lines more with the ghosting method and draw a quick, confident and smooth line in one motion.

Ellipses: In both the planes and table exercise the ellipses tend to be undershot, hit the boundaries a little more during the second and/or third line through the initial ellipse.

Boxes: Rough perspective very often misses the vanishing point by a margin but I can see that it improved as you progressed so that'll naturally come with practice. Rotated boxes rotated well enough that the vanishing point slides across the horizon as intended but they should be more equally spaced apart. Also some of the more diagonally placed boxes seem to be jutting out of the "sphere of boxes" but that's not that prevalent - just watch out for it.

    And that's it!

    Next Steps:

I think you're ready to move onto the 250 box challenge, just make sure to keep your lines smooth. They're pretty smooth in the rotated boxes and the second rough perspective page so just try to replicate that going forward. Good luck and have fun!

A lot of my students use these. The last time I used them was when I was in high school, and at the time I felt that they dried out pretty quickly, though I may have simply been mishandling them. As with all pens, make sure you're capping them when they're not in use, and try not to apply too much pressure. You really only need to be touching the page, not mashing your pen into it.

In terms of line weight, the sizes are pretty weird. 08 corresponds to 0.5mm, which is what I recommend for the drawabox lessons, whereas 05 corresponds to 0.45mm, which is pretty close and can also be used.
