Thank you for your review!! Yeah I definitely didn't think about Lesson 2 and texture here. I was rather unsure how to approach the groves here and mostly looked how Uncomfy did it in his explanation and by looking at already completed homework and tried my best from then on. Also maybe I got a bit insure that the stuff doesn't look good but hey Draw a Box isn't here to make things look good x)

I'll keep textures in mind from here on out, thank you again!! I'm a bit upset I fell into the trap but I think I learned a bunch here as well ^^

Hey there!! I will be looking over your homework today ^-^ Congrats on making it through the second lesson and the cursed sausages!! I believe you can beat those mortal enemies!!

I'll be focusing on what I think you did well first, before explaining where I think you have room to improve, if need be. Let's hop into it!

Arrows: Your arrows flow smoothly and confidently through 3D space, good job! You also seem to have a good understanding where and how to place the shadow and where to emphasize the edges. I notice one minor thing and that is your arrows tend to widen around the middle, widen rapidly or become smaller towards the end that is coming closer to the viewer, when it should be the opposite. It's a relatively minor thing but keep an eye on that if you add this to your warm-ups!

Organic Forms: Your sausages look good! Seems like you slayed the enemy. Sometimes they tend to be a bit elongated. In this as well, keep an eye on it, but it's something you learn as you do. Good job on the ellipses too! They're placed confidently, drawn through twice and move in space with the sausage. Nice!

Texture: I definitely understand the fear around texture, it's a huge topic! You did well with this one, too. The gradient is a hard thing to manage and you added it as well as you could. You're sticking to cast shadows and placing shapes above lines. The most important thing about this assignment is that you learn to really look at your reference and train your eye. And you definitely did that. Good job on breaking the silhouette in the Dissection and making the texture curl around the sausage. There's one minor thing. I noticed you have quiet a big stretch of nothing at all where the light source is hitting from directly above. While this would be right, for the sake of your own progress I would leave that strip of nothing far smaller and instead try to create a gradient from something to nothing, since right now it seems kind of like an abrupt ending eg. the hedhehog spikes, the coconut husk, hay and jackfruit.

Construction: Your constructions are looking really good! The forms are all confidently drawn and look like they're all sitting within the same space and interacting with each other. The intersections themselves also look like they're making sense. Hooray! In your organic intersections I also believe you might profit from using less sausages, since it might get too clustered and with a bit fewer you can properly concentrate on each form and the shadow they cast. Aside from this, they look properly floppy. Nice!

This should be it! You got a firm grasp on everything the assignments wanted you to learn and I don't think I would need any revisions from you. Just keep an eye on the thing I mentioned and maybe try a few things in your future warm-ups.

Arrows: Your arrows are looking good! You seem to have a solid understanding of how they bend in space, where to place the shadow lines and where to emphasize the edges. They really give the feel of slithering through 3D space, one end being much smaller and gradually widening the closer the arrow gets to the viewer. There are some areas where I think you could have added another turn but it's a minor thing in comparison to the big picture. Good job!

Organic Forms: The forms have their fluidity to them, flowing through space and the countour lines and ellipses are well drawn. Good job on drawing through the ellipses twice as well! I feel like you could add more varying degrees of the ellipses, really emphasizing how the shape turns towards or away from the viewer, but that's more of a minor thing.

The sausage form themselves are off, though. You did improve on the second page but I still want to remind you that we're going for a simple tube with an equally sized sphere at each end. Meaning, one end can not be drastically smaller than the other. There's no pinching, nor widening in the middle either and the spheres at the end can't be elongated. This is important, since you will need this in upcoming lessons.

Aside from this one thing, good job!

Texture: There are a lot of situations where you do a good job on portraying the cast shadows in shapes and you progress and learn quite a bit throughout the Dissection assignment. It really shows your growth! Good job! I still feel obligated to remind you to stay away from simple lines, which you have used more often in the first page. Cast shadows will very rarely be only a simple line. In situations where the light source shines directly on the shape maybe, but even then it will probably not be a simple line. You're making good progress though! The gradients on the second page also look really good already ^^

Regarding the Texture Analysis assignment: You did really well with this one, too. The gradient looks smooth and fluid and you stayed away from simple lines. However, it looks like you used only the crumpled paper as analysis, when you should've used it in the first analysis only. Even if it isn't the same thing, you didn't take away as much because you're missing other types of textures now. Theoretically, I think you learned what was the essence of the assignment, however I feel like this is a rather important part to go through so if you're up for it I'd like you to do an analysis for two textures you can find that don't look like crumpled paper. Meaning you have a paper as described in the assignment with the three segments of Direct Study, Notes and the gradient in the last box and you do that for one texture and then for a different texture. Might take a bit of extra time but it's gonna be important further down the line.

Basically, I don't think you absolutely must do it, but it might be a good idea to catch up on this. In this case, it's your decision, really.

Intersections: Looking over these I believe you have a solid understanding of how forms intersect in 3D space. They look like they make sense and all the lines placed are confident. I actually don't think there's anything I could complain about, good job! For the organic intersections you might want to include those in your warm-ups and try to make them bigger, really fit one pile on one page. But that should be about it.

In conclusion I think you can safely move on to the next lesson. As I said, you can do the additional Texture Analysis and if you do, don't forget to answer to this with another link to it so I can look over it one more time.

In addition, I noticed you didn't receive your feedback for the 250 Box Challenge yet. The Draw a Box course is built in a way the requires you to receive feedback or else you will continue making the same mistakes unknowingly, since there's only so much one person can catch. Hey! Yeah that looks good! Definitely work those angles ^-^ I would advice you to include one of the Lines Assignment into your warm-up, since your lines still seem a bit wobbly and unsure, though you did improve already!

Remember that we're aiming for confidence over accuracy! Even though it's preferable not to, it's okay to miss some points as long as you have a strong and confident line.

Keep that in mind in future assignment and warm-ups!

Lines: I think you're doing a good job with the lines. You're aiming to place one confident line, bringing it from Point A to Point B. Fraying in the first assignment is normal to this degree and you'll improve on it if you decide to incorporate this assignment in your warm-ups, but I think this is totally fine. Throughout the lessons you also seem to be improving.

Ellipses: Your ellipses are looking good as well! Confident and smooth. One thing I noticed is that you seem to have trouble reaching all of the borders in the Table of Ellipses assignment. The assignment is to fit all the ellipses neatly within their respective boxes, also neatly against each other. You tend to have several openings here and there. I think you're improving by the Ellipses in Planes assignment, but you might want to keep an eye on it!

Boxes: Your boxes look good as well! Your lines are confident and smooth most of the time. The rest is just a matter of exercise so I wouldn't bother worrying about it. Just keep working on these things in your 15 minute warm ups and you'll be good to go!

Lines: Lines are super hard in the beginning, especially since you're just learning the shoulder movement and all. I think you're starting out good. Also good job on getting your lines from Point A to Point B! In your ghosted Planes exercise the lines seem to wobble a bit. It's still fine but remember for next time to ghost as many times as you need before placing your line, so that you get a smooth, confident line! I would also advice you to try varying shapes of rectangles and squares. The lines don't have to be parallel, in fact, most of the time they aren't. In your second page of the ghosted planes it actually looks like you drew the lines with a ruler. Don't do this. It will not help in learning how to draw a confident line and you lose significant study time. If you get impatient, just take a break instead.

Ellipses: Your ellipses look really good! Confident and dynamic, good job! Also good job on drawing through all of the ellipses at least two times! Remember that we're going for a maximum of three times, preferably two times.

Boxes: The most important thing about the Boxes assignments are still the lines. I feel like compared to in the beginning, they look like they need more ghosting since almost all of them look rather wobbly. Definitely incorporate that in your warm-up for the next time!

Before sending you on your way, I would like you to do another page of the Ghosted Planes exercise. Try to ghost enough times before placing your lines and try to use varying angles for the planes! If you're unsure, you can use other people's completed homework as reference. I think it could already help by angling the lines differently and making one longer than the other.

Your lines are looking good! A bit wobbly and arching in the beginning but you improved very soon so I don't think that's anything worth mentioning. Just continue keeping an eye on that. You might want to include the Superimposed Lines in your warm-up's, especially the longer lines. Good job on making it from Point A to Point B. Also something you're improving on gradually.

Ellipses are looking good as well, though I did notice you seem to have a bit of trouble with staying within the lines in the Table of Ellipses and properly reaching them in the Ellipses in Planes assignment. Make sure to ghost as much as you need before placing the line. It's good you draw through them several times, but keep in mind to do that a maximum of three times, aiming for two. Your ellipses are looking really dynamic already, keep it up!

The most important thing about the boxes assignments are the lines, which you've done a good job on. I don't think there's anything I could nag about. Keep up the good work! And you're totally right about the guesswork. At that point there were so many marks on the paper and I didn't know how to plan those best or I couldn't find a way to sort them in logically so I eyeballed more than I planned at those points. It was definitely a bit of frustration as well.
