Hello, thank you so much for your critique. Sorry taking so long to reply, it´s been months since I logged here.

Your observations enlighted some mistakes that I still do in my warmups; now I´m gonna pay more attention to them.

Also, I´m already in the fourth page of plant constructions. My progress has been so slow, but I plan to more consistent for now on.

    Again, thank you!

Nice job! You extended the lines from the boxes, and that´s the right way. Just that in this exercise, when they say a page, they´re actually refering to a page with three panels with different settings.

But it´s allright, I think you´re good to keep going.

About the hesitancy, I get it. It´s something that comes with time, but If I can give you an advice it would be: try to draw with confidence, even if you´re not. (try to) Ignore if the line dosen´t super imposed correctly and keep going.

Hi, I'll be handling your critique. This is not my first language, so sorry for any broken English.

Lines: You did a great job with the lines exercises. Superimposed lines feels good, no fraying at the starting end. It seems you're still hesitant about failing the accuracy, which I completely understand. But remember: smoothenes and flow are more important than accuracy. If you fail the dot, but your line has a good flow, you succeed. Accuracy comes with time. You can try to draw the line faster; I mean, after ghosting and planning it, you put the pen at the paper and draw it faster, not worrying too much about where it will falls.

In the Ghosted Lines, I can see that there's a little arching at the end of the lines. Probably because you're too worried about hitting the dot. To fix this, you can try lifting the pen when reaching the dot. You'll overshoot it, but your line will be fine.

Ellipses: Tables of ellipses seems a little bit rushed. Make sure to take the time to ghost it and plan, so all the ellipses inside the section look almost the same. But you drawing through them twice, which is good.

In Funnels, remember that the middle line represents the minor axis of the ellipses, so it must cut them in two equal parts. Some ellipses there are a bit tilted, and some others are not touching each others side.

Ellipses in planes are fine. But remember that you don't need to try to make the ellipse fit in the shape of the square.

Boxes: There are some issues with Rough Perspective. You plotted the lines from the vanish point to do the boxes, which is not what the exercise asks for. What you should do is to use the VP as a reference to draw the boxes, but not plot them. After you drew all the boxes, you use a ruler to extend the lines from the boxes to the horizon line, to check how off you are. Also, I think that you should put more boxes on each scene. Check the exercise page again, so you can better understand.

Rotated boxes is pretty good! The rotation is fine. Just the line quality that seems hesitant, so what I said regarding lines can apply here.

Organic boxes are fine too. The lightweight is something you should be aware of. Just add one superimposed line in the ones that crosses another. But I think you did a great job.

I'll ask for you to do one more page of the Rough Perspective. Check the exercise's page.

You did a great job, the first Lessons are always the hardest. So, congrats!

Hi, I will be handling your critique.

Lines: In the Superimposed Lines, I can see that sometimes there are some fraying at the starting point. Your pen should be placed carefully at the beggining of each line. You should not rush. Also, there is some wobble, which is normal and caused by hesitation, but you should be aware. Remember the mantra of the lesson: confidence is more important than accuracy. If you don´t hit the dot but your line is smooth and confident, you´ve made the right job.

The gosted lines and ghosted planes has the same 'accuracy over flow' problem, and this makes your lines don´t be straight. To avoid this, try doing the lines more quickly. You still need to ghost and plan them carefully, but when you´re ready, don´t slow the pen down.

Also, they´re anchoring slightly when they reach the end dot, which indicates that you´re too corcened about them hitting it. Overshooting is not a problem here, especially if it helps you increase the line smoothness. A quote from the lines section that might help: "Try lifting your pen off the page the second you hit that end point. Lifting it up is a much more reliable action you can perform far more responsively, and it avoids the hesitation you get from slowing down."

Ellipses: in the tables of ellipses, especially in the first sheet, some of them are a little wobbly. There is an improvement, but again, just something to be aware. The main issue is that some ellipses feel a bit rushed, they are not fitting within the boundaries correctly, and their deegree and shape varies inside the same section. The ellipses of a section should have the same angle and degree (I´m not talking aboutthe ellipses fitting in the empty spaces).

Ellipses in planes are nice, you´re not worried about making the ellipses follow the shape of the planes, and you did a great job trying to make them touch the four sides.

In Funnels, the main issue is the angle of the ellipses. The straight line should represent the minor axis of the ellipses, which means that it should cut them in two equal parts. I noticed althought that the measurement is not correct, and that longer line is not exactly in the middle of the funnel.

Boxes: Hey, you´ve nailed at your boxes! Of course there are problems, but they are mostly what I said regarding the lines. Rough perspective is fine, and Rotated Boxes are excellent, you´ve really tried to rotate them. I just missed some linewieght in the Organic Boxes, which should be used only on overlaping lines.

That´s it. You´ve completed the first step and should be proud for doing it! I´m requesting revisions so you can apply what I said about the lines. Make sure to review the lines page too, to refresh your memory.

Sorry for any broken english, it´s not my first language.

Thanks for the critique! You made it clear some aspects that I really didn´t thought that was happening.

About the notes, I thought that was beneficial and that was helping me to understand my mistakes, but now I´m wondering if this is really true. Thanks for the warning!

Thanks! :,) It´s always heartwarming when someone compliment your perspective skills. God bless the 250 boxes.

Thanks! Actually, it was supposed to be its legs, but I didn´t made it very well lol.

But yeah, it would be awesome. The wings could work almost as a glider :)

Faber Castell PITT Artist Pens

Like the Staedtlers, these also come in a set of multiple weights - the ones we use are F. One useful thing in these sets however (if you can't find the pens individually) is that some of the sets come with a brush pen (the B size). These can be helpful in filling out big black areas.

Still, I'd recommend buying these in person if you can, at a proper art supply store. They'll generally let you buy them individually, and also test them out beforehand to weed out any duds.
