    Hey Darruh! Firstly, well done on finishing lesson 1!

    I'll be giving you feedback in the following way: overall lesson, points where you could improve or keep practicing and points where you've done well. This way we'll go over the whole picture and see where you'd most might need to put attention to, and where less. I might go over things that you have already internalized, but I hope it's good to hear confirmation on how you could approach some of the markmaking and mindset.

    It looks like you have taken your time to understand the material and have been diligent in following the lesson. It looks like you might've studied fundamentals before or have been drawing for a while already. (Okay, enough of the niceties!)

    1. For superimposed lines there's quite a bit of divergence, especially for the longer lines. You'd (probably? maybe?) rarely need to draw an A4 length line, but definitely try to practice the mid-length lines some more. I can also see a lot of divergence for the curved lines. Are you having problems because you're not seeing your target? It seems to be quite a common problem for students. Same for the curvier lines. Trust your muscle memory, and the more you practice the better they'll come out.

    2. For ghosted lines, along with trusting your muscle memory, you should also remember to turn the page as needed, and find the best angle to actually pull or push the lines. I am right-handed and I usually draw from bottom left to top right.

    3. For both superimposed and ghosted lines you have slight curving. It is especially noticeable in the long and mid-length lines. For this you could try to practice with consciously adjusting the trajectory of the line in the opposite direction. It is a very delicate adjustment and needs a bit of training, but don't get discouraged, and keep going!

    4. Your line and ellipse drawing speed: it would benefit if you would try to experiment more with the speed at which you draw your lines. It's good to go fast, but fast also has different levels. Try to ghost lines a bit faster and a bit slower to find the sweet spot. In addition for ellipses, I can also see that some ellipses with a smaller minor axis (the skinny ellipses) have a very steep curve at the ends, some of the ellipses are egg-shaped, and some of the ellipses don't hit the edges of the tables or planes. The ellipse problems should also be fixable with experimenting with your drawing speed.

    5. For ghosted lines, I can see that many are not hitting the target dot. See all of the above tips! There's not much more to do here than keep practicing.

    6. For ellipses, I think you're quite consistently hitting a good shape. Well done!

    7. Well done on the plotted perspective, rough perspective and organic perspective. I would especially like to commend the rotated boxes.

    Remember to keep doing warmups and especially varying the warmups you do, keeping in mind the above points. I am always open to discuss, further elaborate or hear your thoughts on any of the points, if you wish!

    Hey! Thank you so much for the feedback! I think I've now to a degree grasped how to better add masses (and to some extent how to use extraction) after getting critique on it from a number of people. It took a hot minute to figure out what people were on about :D. I'll try to even more internalise these points going further.

    Would you have any advice on what I could add to my warmup rotation or perhaps if I could work on something specific? If not that's also cool, and thank you again!

    Hmm. Since you went back in the queue, surely it should appear for people? It usually takes quite a few days (maybe even a week or two) to get critique on your work. If you'd like to get ahead in the queue a bit you could also join the Discord server and ask Elodin about getting added to the ongoing list he has (which can be slightly faster than then queue), but you need to do 5 critiques to get on the list.

    Thank you so much for the feedback! I definitely have some issues with some spatial reasoning (especially for intersections with primitive forms in abstract placements). I appreciate the thorough review on the intersections!

    I've also been trying to practice arrows more as it was something that has been brought out before to me.

    Thank you for the continued guidance! I'll keep practicing the leaves and doing arrows for warmups. I've been doing some more leaves and I really have a hard time with visualising the bending.

    I'm planning on getting on the texture challenge soon, and left most of them without texture because of that.

Let's be real here for a second: fineliners can get pricey. It varies from brand to brand, store to store, and country to country, but good fineliners like the Staedtler Pigment Liner (my personal brand favourite) can cost an arm and a leg. I remember finding them being sold individually at a Michael's for $4-$5 each. That's highway robbery right there.

Now, we're not a big company ourselves or anything, but we have been in a position to periodically import large batches of pens that we've sourced ourselves - using the wholesale route to keep costs down, and then to split the savings between getting pens to you for cheaper, and setting some aside to one day produce our own.

These pens are each hand-tested (on a little card we include in the package) to avoid sending out any duds (another problem with pens sold in stores). We also checked out a handful of different options before settling on this supplier - mainly looking for pens that were as close to the Staedtler Pigment Liner. If I'm being honest, I think these might even perform a little better, at least for our use case in this course.

We've also tested their longevity. We've found that if we're reasonably gentle with them, we can get through all of Lesson 1, and halfway through the box challenge. We actually had ScyllaStew test them while recording realtime videos of her working through the lesson work, which you can check out here, along with a variety of reviews of other brands.

Now, I will say this - we're only really in a position to make this an attractive offer for those in the continental United States (where we can offer shipping for free). We do ship internationally, but between the shipping prices and shipping times, it's probably not the best offer you can find - though this may depend. We also straight up can't ship to the UK, thanks to some fairly new restrictions they've put into place relating to their Brexit transition. I know that's a bummer - I'm Canadian myself - but hopefully one day we can expand things more meaningfully to the rest of the world.
