Thank you so much for your time! You have made any worry I had disappear with your words. I really was concerned about making mistakes, or heck, just having my boxes critiqued in the first place. I'll make sure to keep your notes in mind as I go forward and I can't wait to start lesson 2. Thank you again!

Hiya Ciel! Well done on coming this far!

    Lines

    1. Superimposed Lines: These lines aren't so bad. There's little wobbling, and it doesn't fray around the beginning. The important thing to remember is to place your pen at the beginning of the line and letting your eyes do the rest as your arm moves.

    2. Ghosted Lines: Your lines fall somewhere around level 2. They're straight, with no wobbling or bending at all, but the problem comes with mark making. Some of them are overshot or undershot that they kinda miss the mark.

    3. Ghosted Planes: These are great actually! Every line looks pretty straight and it hits each point neatly.

    Ellipses

    1. Table of Ellipses: Your ellipses look great. I think you've drawn through them 3 full times, which isn't wrong at all, but you should remember to draw them 2-3 times.

    2. Ellipses in Planes: The ellipses here are also good. You've also made sure to draw each ellipse so that it looks smooth while also hitting each edge of the plane.

    3. Funnels: Nothing to note here. Just reminding you not to draw them more than 3 times. Otherwise, they're aligned neatly along the line, spaced out decently, and they touch each side of the funnel!

    Boxes

    1. Plotted Perspective: Those look good! The horizontal edges are plotted correctly to the vanishing points, and you've properly used hatching to distinguish the faces of the boxes.

    2. Rough Perspective: You've used rectangles, properly applied the ghosting method, the extension lines aren't sloppily drawn either. Great!

    3. Rotated Boxes: This is one of the good looking rotated boxes I've seen so far. Only real thing I'd point out is how you didn't hatch them and even then they're not required. Well done.

    4. Organic Perspective: Very good! Ghosting method properly utilized, the parallel edges are diverging as they move away from the viewer, and the foreshortening is also shallow.

    Next Steps:

Great job! Congrats in advance for finishing Lesson 1! Now, tackle those boxes and show em who's boss!

You are right! Really sorry for this mistake. They look really good too! I would say you're set to go to the 250 boxes challenge. Congrats!

    Next Steps:

Well done! Onto the boxes now.

    Lines

    1. Superimposed Lines: Those lines look pretty good! No fraying on either side and there's little to no wobbilness. Only thing I'd bring up is how many lines you did, which is quite a lot. But nothing wrong!

    2. Ghosted Lines: Pretty on-point. There's no wobbly lines in sight, they start and end greatly around each point too. I would easily place this at level 3.

    3. Ghosted Planes: Same as the ghosted lines.

    Ellipses

    1. Table of Ellipses: You understood the assignment pretty well. They're all evenly shaped, with each ellipse having been drawn two full times. Most importantly, they seem to be executed confidently which ends up making them look smooth.

    2. Ellipses in Planes: The important things about this exercise is that you've made sure to let each ellipse hit all 4 edges of the plane. Other than that, your ellipses look as good as the table of ellipses.

    3. Funnels: You've made sure to align the ellipses along the central minor axis line, with decent spacing between each ellipse, and they're drawn two full times.

    Boxes

    1. Plotted Perspective: Very good! I appreciate the fact you used multiple colors, helps analyzing them better. The horizontal edges are plotted correctly to the vanishing points.

    2. Rough Perspective: All rectangles, proper usage of the ghosting method, one vanishing point used, and the extensions are applied correctly. Good job!

    3. Rotated Boxes: No complaints! Boxes are drawn through, with each one spaced decently from the other, and most importantly you've drawn all of the boxes including the corner ones.

    4. Organic Perspective: This is pretty good, but you're missing just one more page of this exercise.

    Next Steps:

Simply submit one more page of the organic perspective exercise and you'll be good to go.

When finished, reply to this critique with your revisions.

Hiya! I'll be critiquing your work today. Right off the bat, great job on coming this far!

    Lines

    1. Superimposed Lines: Very great start. I see little to not fraying on either sides of the points and the lines are kept smooth with no wobliness.

    2. Ghosted Lines: I would rank them somewhere on level 3 where the lines are consistent, smooth, and it starts good at one point and ends off neatly.

    3. Ghosted Planes: Much like the ghosted lines, no problems here!

    Ellipses

    1. Table of Ellipses: The important thing about ellipses is that you keep them smooth and confident, while also drawing them two full times, an act you seem to be understanding quite well.

    2. Ellipses in Planes: You've drawn through your ellipses, and you especially made sure to make each one touch all 4 edges of the plane. Splendid!

    3. Funnels: Nothing wrong here. Ellipses are drawn confidently two full times, each one is touching each side of the funnel, and they seem to be aligned pretty well along the central minor axis line.

    Boxes

    1. Plotted Perspective: The only thing I really have to comment on is how some boxes aren't hatched, which is totally optional! Anyway, the important part is that you've used a ruler, the verticals are perpendicular to the horizon, and you've correctly plotted the horizontal edges back to the vanishing points.

    2. Rough Perspective: There is nothing really to note here either. You understood the assignment perfectly. Some boxes look a bit shaky, so I should note utilizing the ghosting method properly.

    3. Rotated Boxes: Honestly, pretty damn good. You've drawn through the boxes and drawn the corner boxes. Not much else to add.

    4. Organic Perspective: Nothing to note here, either! Ghosting method properly utilized, the parallel edges are diverging as they move away from the viewer, and the foreshortening is also shallow.

    Next Steps:

Great work! Congratulations on coming this far. Now you oughta tackle those 250 boxes!

Hiya Jez! I'll be critiquing your homework below, but I just want to point out how you're using a notepad and a ballpoint pen for some of the works. Don't be discouraged, however! You seem to have a good grasp on the exercises and I will provide more details below.

    Lines

    1. Superimposed Lines: Nothing wrong here. You understand that the fraying must be at the end of the point, and I don't see any fraying from the starting point as well. There's also very little wobbling or wavering, so good job on the start.

    2. Ghosted Lines: I would place your ghosted lines somewhere around level 2, where most of them tend to overshoot their marks. Other than that, I see no wobbliness and they're fairly straight.

    3. Ghosted Planes: Nothing to note here, honestly. You filled the pages with ghosted planes and the lines seem straight.

    Ellipses

    1. Table of Ellipses: I can see that your first page had a lot of struggling, but you pretty much nailed it on the second. I can tell you went through each ellipse a full two times, and the shapes themselves seem even thanks to proper execution of the ghosting method.

    2. Ellipses in Planes: It looks to me that you're correctly drawing through your ellipses twice, but my criticism mainly lies with how some ellipses don't quite hit all 4 edges of the plane. They also seem somewhat uneven or deformed. You should prioritize confidence above everything else and that your ellipses look smooth, even if this should pose more of a challenge to hitting those 4 edges.

    3. Funnels: You've paid attention to making each ellipse fit snuggily into the funnels, and they're relatively alligned to the central minor access line. If there's one thing to note, it's that some of the ellipses share the same problems as the ellipses in planes. Other than that, good job.

    Boxes

    1. Plotted Perspective: No complaints here! You properly used a ruler, the vertical lines are perpendicular to the horizon, and the horizontal edges are correctly plotted to the vanishing points.

    2. Rough Perspective: This one was a bit confusing to look at, but I can see that you properly used one vanishing point at the center of the frame, the front and back faces are rectangular, and you've applied the extension lines correctly. I would also say that you've executed the ghosting method correctly.

    3. Rotated Boxes: The core steps of this exercise are implemented properly. There are tight and consistent gaps between the boxes. The boxes' rotation is relatively correct. Although it's a bit confusing to look at, you've also drawn through your boxes which is important.

    4. Organic Perspective: The ghosting method is used properly, the edges correctly diverge away from the viewer. I just want to remind you that you need to keep your foreshortening more shallow, make them more gradual in their convergences. The only thing I can really complain about is how the boxes look kinda cluttered but they're overall pretty good.

    Next Steps:

While there are a few issues here and there, I think you did a good job and I congratulate you on coming this far. I'm glad to say: You're on your way to draw those 250 boxes!

Hi! Sorry, I don't know how that happened. I think it's because I tried fitting all 250 boxes in one link. Anyway, I went over it again and hopefully it works this time.

Yep! I see no issues here either. I can say you're done with Lesson 1. Now all you need is two agrees to properly advance to the 250 boxes!

    Next Steps:

You're going to add some of these exercises to your warmup pool later, but for now, your next step is those 250 boxes. Good luck with that!

Heya! Good job on finishing Lesson 1! This is also my first time critiquing so I'll do my best too.

    *1. Lines

Superimposed Lines: You seem to be missing one page of this exercise, but I notice that there isn't any fraying from the start of the line and that's pretty good!

Ghosted Lines: Great! I don't see any wobbliness and each stroke seems to have been executed with confidence.

Ghosted Planes: Same with the second point. I don't see any issues, though there is an extra page when the homework tab indicated only 2 pages.

    *2. Ellipses

Tables of Ellipses: I see confidence in your drawings and you've drawn through them twice or thrice. Great!

Ellipses in Planes: Again, there are three pages, but otherwise you managed to get each ellipse to touch every edge in the planes and you circled through them twice.

Funnels: Good! The ellipses are all aligned with the axis and are decently spaced from each other.

    *3. Boxes

Plotted Perspective: I see the variety in the boxes you drew here, and you seem to understand how vanishing points work. Nice.

Rough Perspective: All of the boxes are drawn neatly with the ghosting methods, and I especially like how the single vanishing point changes from center, right, and to the left.

Rotated Boxes: This exercise is honestly my weakpoint, so i might have trouble criticizing it as well, but nothing really seems wrong. You've managed to make each box tight and close to each other, and you've drawn the absolute corners which are a bit challenging to some people.

Organic Perspective: The line work is great! And each box seems to rotate and flow naturally. But much like the first exercise, you're missing a page.

    Next Steps:

All of your work is fantastic, but like I mentioned above, you need one more page of the Superimposed Lines exercise and another page of the Organic Perspective exercise. Simply reply to this critique with those, and I can say you're done with the first lesson!

When finished, reply to this critique with your revisions.

Since a lot of our students want to break into working with digital painting however, I thought this course in particular would be a great start to get into the weeds with how to navigate the confusing world of layers, brushes, and more.

This course highlights programs across the full spectrum of options, ranging from the current industry standard Adobe Photoshop, to the Free-and-Open-Source darling Krita, as well as the mobile favourite, Procreate.
